Meanwhile, back on Lifeboat Earth
|
by Herb Ruhs, MD, Unknown News July 5, 2006
People grew weary of having to use their cupped hands to bail out the
water that occasionally spilled over into the bottom of the life boat.
Someone said, "We have a more efficient way to do the job. Get your
bailing buckets here." These

people proceeded to secretly dismantle
what they considered "nonessential pieces" of the boat to make
buckets, and business was good.
Then someone amongst the bailing bucket makers thought that business
would be better if the boat was rocking, so they set about to start fights which caused the boat to rock.
More water came over the sides and more buckets were needed.
Business was better.
The Better Business Group displaced the old timers, who used their
profits to buy up little used spaces toward the top of the boat and
hired the biggest people displaced by the rising water to protect
their claims.
A faction of the Better Business Group who called themselves the Even
Better Business Group came up with the idea of secretly drilling
holes in the bottom of the boat so that they could sell even more
buckets. As a bonus, their

investments in spaces near the top of the
boat increased in value as more people were displaced from the
lowest, flooded regions forcing them buy places nearer the top at
inflated prices. And business was, as predicted, even Better.
People began to complain about the Business Groups and argued that
the boat was being wrecked as pieces of it mysteriously disappeared
seemingly to reappear as buckets. The Protesters also asked
questions about the mysterious holes that kept appearing below the
water line at the bottom of the boat. They were shouted down by
agents of the Business Group who pointed out the obviously great need
for buckets. These agents were allowed to buy spaces near the top of
the boat, increasing values even more. And Business was getting
better and better.
As more and more people were displaced from the bottom of the boat by
the rising water more buckets were fashioned and more people were
forced to work long days bailing, creating an even greater demand for
buckets. Business continued to get better.
Some people rebelled and called for the bucket makers and the space
sellers to be thrown overboard. But the mass of bucket bailers, with
agents of the Bucket Makers whispering in their ears, angrily
responded that, without buckets they would not have the bailing jobs
that would eventually allow them to buy better, dryer places for
themselves. And besides, it was obvious to all that, without buckets
to bail the boat would sink and everyone would drown. The rebels
were thrown over board instead. Business started to get really good.
The water continued to rise and only the Bucket Makers retained
really dry spots near the top. The mass of people worked day and
night bailing ever larger amounts of water with ever so improved and
numerous buckets and, for a while, the tide was stemmed and an
equilibrium was attained.
Some people found jobs as religious
prophets, who were guaranteed spots high in the boat by the Bucket
Makers. The Prophets worked tirelessly amongst the bailers to
convince them that, from the top of the boat, one could see the
Promised Land approaching and that the bailers increasingly hard work
would be soon rewarded .
Business kept getting better and better and
the Bucket Makers began to believe there was no end to the improvement.
Then a sudden storm arose. Waves swamped the now low riding boat and
all hands perished except for a few Bucket Makers who fashioned a
raft from the many buckets floating in the water and set out to find
another life boat in which to set up business.
