What has voting done lately?

If, as dwindling numbers of the American people still believe,
voting is the best and only way to influence our representatives to pass
legislation favorable to the electorate, I beg to disagree. Let me ask
you a few questions, and if you agree with me, ask yourself why you
still wish to follow the

political pied pipers in Washington. Let's
begin!
Has voting succeeded in promoting fair trade, preventing the
mass exodus of good paying American jobs overseas? No, it has not!
Has
voting kept in place social programs for healthcare and housing, so
important to many less fortunate Americans such as the poor and elderly?
No, it has not!
Has voting given the American people fiscal
responsibility and a balanced budget? No, it has not!
Has voting given
America a sane and balanced foreign policy, particularly in dealing with
the volatile middle East, whose resources are so important to Americas
needs? No, it has not!
Has voting brought peace and tranquillity to
America? No, it has not!
Has voting prevented millions of illegal
immigrants from crossing into America at will? No it has not!
Has voting
given us the best minds, the most ethical, and the most qualified
individuals that American culture can produce to lead our nation? No, it
has certainly not!
Has voting made America safer today than it was a
decade ago? No, it has not!
America is without question rapidly moving
towards economic ruin, loss of national sovereignty, a continuous state
of war, and eventually, totalitarianism. Our system of government,
although never perfect, was in the past willing to respond to the
demands of the American people, but this is no longer is the case, and has
not been for some time.
Voting, because of the insatiable greed and
corruption of those who feign to represent the people, has become to all
intents, null and void, and is continued only to perpetuate the illusion
that the average American still has a voice in his government. Bribery
has become so omnipresent and pervasive in Washington, that in order to
ensure the continued flow of dollars into the coffers and pockets of
both parties and politicians, that no other entity, whether it be another
political party, or an individual, especially representing reform, is
not be tolerated and quickly shut out of the system.
The result of all
this money pouring into Washington is control of domestic, economic, and
foreign policy ceded to powerful corporate and foreign entities. America
is being raped, looted, and pillaged in exchange for payment rendered to
our representatives, whom some of us still entertain the fantasy that
they are still beholden to the voters.
With the exception of lip service
to the American people, the political structure of America, controlled
by the two major political parties, no longer feels accountable to the
people, and for those of you who wish not to see what is happening right
before your very eyes, who refuse to hear the words, and deny what you
are feeling in the pit of your stomach, let me tell you about a made for
TV drama I had seen many years ago:

There's much more than this at Unknown News.

It takes place during World War II
in the Western Desert of North Africa. A small garrison of British
soldiers are manning an isolated outpost in the middle of the desert. The
enemy is nowhere to be seen. The war, to the officers and men of this
outpost, is nothing more than an abstraction, something far, far away.
They go about their mundane duties day after day, week after week, month
after month. Nothing ever changes, the patrols go out, and as usual,
report no contact.
Then one night a sentry hears something in the far
distance. He duly reports his finding to his superiors. He is told what
he has heard is just a figment of his imagination, and the matter is
ended. The next evening he hears the sound again, this time it is
louder. He reports again to his superior officer, and once again is not
believed. Each evening the sounds get louder and begin to multiply.
Worried, the sentry demands to know why none of the officers and men can
hear what has become clearly identifiable as that of tank engines.
Irritated, his commanding officer warns him never to mention the
sounds again. The men of this isolated outpost go to their deaths still
in denial of the presence of the enemy, so powerful and pervasive was
the mindset which blocked out the warning signs.
This is the same mindset
which many Americans have succumbed to. The warning signs are everywhere,
but like the officers and men at the desert outpost, many Americans
refuse to admit to the danger, ignoring the growing threat to life,
liberty, and the pursuit of happiness, voting instead for those who
would hasten its demise.
