Ah, the gulag is not so far-fetched after all

I never thought I would see the day when a President of the United
States, and Congress, would be debating, voting for, signing into law legislation which
gives the President the power to hold indefinitely, and to inflict
torture upon those he considers to be enemy combatants. This is an
outrage!

What the hell is happening here? Not even in the darkest days
of a World War II was there any mention of such a thing by members of
our Government. Torture and brutality upon prisoners of war was practiced
by our enemies, particularly by the Japanese, whose medieval military
code held allied soldiers who surrendered in contempt, to be humiliated,
tortured, starved, and used as slave labor. Although incidents of
brutality against enemy prisoners of war occurred during the war, it was
never the official policy of the United States Government or its
military to encourage the use of torture upon prisoners of war, military
or civilian.
Apparently, the members of the Bush Junta and his rubber
stamp Congress believe that by using different terminology such as enemy
combatants and terrorists instead of enemy soldiers, it can justify
the practice of torture, and still not be in violation of the Geneva
Convention, in which the United States is a signatory. This
should not be surprising to anyone, when you consider that the authors of
this draconian legislation are the same men whose treason have brought
our Republic to is present sorry state.
While this legislation will no
doubt be challenged on the basis of being un-Constitutional, it is a
good bet the Supreme Court will rule in favor of the Bush Regime. After
all, it was the Supreme Court which overturned the election, and placed
GW Bush in the White House.
The Bush Regime is consolidating its hold on
power, and is well on its way to removing the last obstacles to the
establishment of a permanent dictatorship in America.
This so called
Military Commission Law will give Bush and his successors the means to
effectively remove all opposition to the implementation of their
dictatorship.
The rumors we have been hearing of huge detention camps
being built by Halliburton and the white railroad prison cars with
shackles in place waiting to take the first of many hundreds of
thousands of Americans away have become, with the passing of this
legislation, much more believable.
