Impeachment: Hurry up! Here's why...

Bush's "Surge" plan is doomed -- in the sense that it will
make matters worse and fail to achieve its alleged
objective: a peaceful, law-abiding, unified, democratic
Iraq. Here's why I think it is an incredibly stupid plan:
1. It was telegraphed in advance! Put yourself in the position of
a Resistance commander. What would youyou do if you were
given a month's advance warning that the Americans will be
escalating in Baghdad and Al Anbar, going door-to-door
looking for The Resistance? That's easy: evacuate most
fighters until the Surge is over, and set up as many booby
traps as possible --

especially in places that will provoke
the Americans to over-react and kill lots of civilians.
Then, after the main advance of the Surge is complete and
"Mission Accomplished" hits the newswires, counter-attack
and destroy the morale of the enemy population.
2. The bulk of the Shi'ite death squads are part of the
Iraqi military and police. Asking them to investigate
themselves is moronic. All that means is that they might cool it on
the midnight murdering until the Surge is complete and
"Mission Accomplished" hits the newswires. They can
take it easy and let the Americans do the ethnic
cleansing for them!
3. Sadr City, the Badr Brigades and Moqtada Al Sadr. Two
million people live in the "slums" of Sadr City. To go
door-to-door in a densely populated urban environment
filled with two million heavily armed citizens is very
brave... or very stupid. The best Bush can do is to call in
airstrikes to bomb and napalm any city block that offers
resistance -- and of course the place will be booby-trapped
up the wazoo, so plenty of airstrikes will be required.
(Were you aware that Fallujah is still a deadly, violent
place even after the post-2004 election genocide by Fuhrer
Bush? The Resistance continues, even now...)
4. Bush's Psychology: he has military operations going on
all over the world now: Somalia, which was recently bombed
(and missed the targets but killed civilians); Afghanistan
and Iraq; Iran (special forces); and even places like the
Philippines. Not to mention the recent month-long bombing
of Lebanon, in which Israel used up all of the American
ammo reserves and Bush had to special delivery extra bombs
so that Israel could really do a number on them and
finished up by dropping thousands of cluster bombs during
the final few days before the cease-fire... And let's not
forget Palestine, with their new democratically-elected
government which Bush has been trying to overthrow... Nor
South America, which has turned vehemently anti-American
(really anti-Bush). What does all this mean to Bush? Does
failure register in his mind?
I don't think Bush really understands the way the world
works. For every action there is a reaction, and pretty
much the entire world is taking up arms against Bush --
or, in the case of Russia and South America, nationalizing
critical industries and giving the boot to Western
corporations.
Bush doesn't see that he is creating his own
failures. He thinks that all this is someone else's fault.
And he is emotionally lashing out, using the American
military as a substitute for facing reality. He is
in denial, still thinking he has a chance to redeem
everything by continuing as before.
Since Bush still has plenty of military assets to blow shit
up with, I think the world needs to put a stop to him
immediately, before he escalates us into a real WW III.
The US
Congress has not only the "power of the purse", but also
the power of Impeachment. If Congress fails to act within
the next month or two, then I believe Bush will escalate
his wars -- either directly, or by staging an incident that
"justifies" a military over-reaction.
And I don't see any
reason why, in a military disaster scenario, Bush would not
go nuclear. If faced with losing his army in Iraq,
or his fleet in the Persian Gulf, I expect him to go
Maximum first and ask questions later. This is exactly
what America's enemies seem to want -- another gigantic
strategic fuck-up by the worst military commander since
the first alpha monkey climbed down out of the tree.
