Forgotten principles

by Leon Fisher, Unknown News
February 7, 2007

I would like to express my disappointment with those of my generation who have sold out to the same corrupt institutions they had actively opposed many years before.

While some of you, to your ever-lasting credit, have kept the faith, most of you have not. In fact, you have allowed yourselves to become corrupted by the same debilitating greed and materialism which affected your parents, blinding them to the lies and manipulations of the evil, power-hungry men of the time -- Lyndon Johnson, Robert McNamara, and Richard Nixon.

You have forgotten the lessons learned when you marched against the immoral and illegal war being waged in Southeast Asia. You say you have grown up and your values have changed. You no longer have the time to be bothered with politics, but somehow you find the time to vote for and give money to that other tyrant from Texas, G.W. Bush.

You invest in Wall Street without any thought that a good part of the profit you are making is drenched in the blood of the troops you feign to support, and the innocent civilians caught in the crossfire. You ignore the images of the horrors of war brought into your living rooms on the evening news, as you impatiently wait for the business and sports reports. You find yourselves agreeing with the hate-filled rhetoric of right-wing radio talk show hosts, who hate all those who disagree with them. You hold those who march for peace and justice in contempt, disillusioned fools you say, not living in the real world. Disloyal Americans, you are thinking, who hate America and Bush.

And to think that a great many of you marched for peace forty years ago. You have, like your youth, lost your idealism long ago. You have lost your souls.

You are no longer the blessed peacemakers, but have instead become the crucifiers. You have chosen to ignore the truth and drink from the cup of hypocrisy and greed.

You who support the abomination taking place in the Middle East, and who support the usurper who has defiled the temple of our Government, will reap what you have sowed. The murderous and corrupt policies of the Bush cabal will backfire, your stocks will plummet, and your own children will be sent into the caldron of war. You will lose much of what you hold dear, and quite rightly so, and you will be haunted for the rest of your days.

Maybe you can practice singing the words to an old song you probably don't remember any more...

Where have all the flowers gone?
Long time passing
Where have all the flowers gone?
Long time ago
Where have all the flowers gone?
Girls have picked them every one
When will they ever learn?
When will they ever learn?

Where have all the young girls gone?
Long time passing
Where have all the young girls gone?
Long time ago
Where have all the young girls gone?
Taken husbands every one
When will they ever learn?
When will they ever learn?

Where have all the young men gone?
Long time passing
Where have all the young men gone?
Long time ago
Where have all the young men gone?
Gone for soldiers every one
When will they ever learn?
When will they ever learn?

Where have all the soldiers gone?
Long time passing
Where have all the soldiers gone?
Long time ago
Where have all the soldiers gone?
Gone to graveyards every one
When will they ever learn?
When will they ever learn?

Where have all the graveyards gone?
Long time passing
Where have all the graveyards gone?
Long time ago
Where have all the graveyards gone?
Covered with flowers every one
When will we ever learn?
When will we ever learn?
