9/11 documentary

I rented the Naudet brothers DVD last night and watched and you bet I listened good and hard, and I'll listen and watch again tonight. Go over your memory real good, everything you heard and saw those first two days, because a lot of important things were removed. Almost true in any major event, the truth is always in the first couple of hours than little by little it get edited out. That video had a lot of the back and fourth talk between the fireman.

I don't tell too many people this but I might as well now, that afternoon speaking with my neighbor he brought up an interesting thing he told me that his buddy couldn't meet him that day because he was sent out to turn off the gas at building # 7 ...

I never asked him what business his friend was in. There were just too many things going on. My neighbor had a heart attack later that week and never came home from the hospital, and he died.

I had a great view of the NY skyline since I lived right across the Hudson river on the Jersey side the whole time the buildings went up. Guys who worked on those buildings sat and talked to us so many times I lost count. Anything new or different being done on that building we knew about it. They tried to explain to us how they were different from other tall skyscrapers. We'd ask about fire safety and if they could ever fall sideways. I laughed at first when they said the buildings would fall straight down due to something placed in the internal structure which could later be brought down with charges that would ignite strategically placed explosives.

Yes even back then in the 70s we questioned the safety of those monstrosities going up and staying up. I was going with a boy who at the time was studying to be a structural engineer. Part of his homework was going over to those buildings as they were going up. I heard later that the blown-in insulation was new and full of asbestos and that the architect did not want them using it. There were stories we learned every day about the WTC job, but that one about the building going down fast was the most interesting. It was like they knew that at some time they might have to take them down for some reason or another.

Then hearing Donald Trump of all people that day as he was watching and commentating on CNN as the first tower went down, he kept saying ''They are pancaking, that what they were designed to do.'' And he kept repeating it over and over, like he was amazed it went so well!

Kathy Fisher

That's the documentary that was supposed to be a chronicle of a rookie firefighter's first days on the job, but the day turned out to be September 11, yes? I keep hearing good things about that movie...

Arming Japan

CIA Papers Reveal Japan Coup Plot

Excerpt: Declassified documents reveal that Japanese ultra-nationalists with ties to U.S. military intelligence plotted to overthrow the Japanese government and assassinate the prime minister in 1952.

The scheme - which was abandoned - was concocted by militarists and suspected war criminals who had worked for U.S. occupation authorities after World War II, according to CIA records reviewed by The Associated Press. The plotters wanted a right-wing government that would re-arm Japan. ...

Yoshida was pushed out of office peacefully in 1954 and replaced by Hatoyama, but the ultra-rightist dream of resurrecting a militarist Japan never happened. The 1947 pacifist constitution bars Japan from warfare and has never been amended.

The push to amend the Japanese is alive again with the argument(ala George Bush) Japan needs to rearm to "fight terrorism".

Nuclear winter

If Bush/Cheney/Israel manages to touch off just a relatively 'small' regional war in the Middle-east, it could cause a global environmental calamity of unheard of proportions. Dire shortages of food would no doubt set off many subsequent wars in the years after as a byproduct. But by golly, human history would sure never forget Bush II -- if we survived his insanity, that is. 'Nuclear winter' may kill more than a nuclear war

Excerpt: A regional exchange of relatively small nuclear weapons could plunge the world into a decade-long "nuclear winter", destroying agriculture and killing millions, according to a new study. Weapons experts consider that small-scale nuclear exchanges are now more likely than the massive US-Soviet exchanges feared during the Cold War.

Feeling bad that I have not been able to pursue several impulses to write for you on topics arising from recent Unknown News pieces, particularly the brouhaha around what a self respecting conspiracy theorist should be thinking. Fortunately/unfortunately I am currently a 24/7 caretaker of my four year old grandson. His mother calls him daily from California where she has returned to pursue a business opportunity in massage therapy. Sometime after April 1, probably mid month, I will be returning him to his mom. Before then I will be surprised if I am able to write anything substantial.

Reading some very interesting books though, and expect to use them to fuel some new stuff. Some very good ones in the last month or two (I really do read this many books each month - no kidding - what else do I have time for). Top of the list is [capitalization per the title page] the sociopath next door: The ruthless vs. the Rest of Us that is probably one of those "must read" books for folks trying to make sense of current events.

Right under that is Kirpatric Sale's new book After Eden: The Evolution of Human Domination which argues that Homo Sapiens began our downward spiral with the evolution of high tech (for the stone age) hunting of large animals.

Backing that up, and almost finished with a first reading, is After the Ice: A Global Human History, 20,000-5000 BC that covers the period of human history from the next to last great warming of the climate to the beginning of written history.

The above books are filled in by Animals in Translation: Using the Mysteries of Autism to Decode Animal Behavior in which the wonderful animal scientist, and very successful high functioning autistic, Temple Grandin, explores animal consciousness from the non- conventional human perspective of autistic perception and potentially provides a radically different perspective from which any of us can markedly increase our understanding of our own lives and the tragedy that we have been taught to call "civilization."

I have gotten into the habit of reading everything by Jared Diamond, and I filled in a hole recently by reading The Rise and Fall of the Third Chimpanzee: the Evolution and Future of the Human Animal concurrently with the above books.

Tying all these together is the compelling two volume (891 pages) Endgame by derrick jensen [sic] which is almost finished as well. Triangulating all these sources it begins to be clear that the source of our current catastrophes, climate change, war, poverty, hunger, the whole shooting match, lies in the maladaptive process of extreme social aggregation, that conflicts with our evolutionary heritage, and large scale political power, and the technologies of centralization that supports this concentration of power.

On a parallel track to the above reading I am about half way through The God Delusion by Richard Dawkins which I recommend to anyone struggling with belief in the context of their scientific understanding of the world. It is not an easy book. It is best taken a few pages at a time, which I accomplish by making it my main potty book (where I do my best thinking it seems).

Probably my favorite recent book (judging by my having reread it numerous times myself and now to my four year old grandson) is the first volume of Larry Gonick's Cartoon History of the Universe: Volumes 1-7, from the Big Bang to Alexander the Great. Also in my history reading of the last couple of months: Thomas Cahill's Sailing the Wine Dark Sea, Why the Greeks Matter that is the best source I have found on who Socrates really was and why his rejection by Athens was a turning point for western civilization; The Fall of the Roman Empire by Michael Grant; Inventing a Nation by Gore Vidal; Hegemony or Survival by Noam Chomsky (a perpetually popular author for me); Blood of the Earth, The Battle for the World's Vanishing Oil Resources by Dilip Hiro; Secrets: A Memoir of Vietnam and the Pentagon Papers by Daniel Ellsberg; and finally The Republican War on Science by Chris Mooney.

Just bought and as yet uncracked is Nemesis, The Last Days of the American Republic which will force me to read Blowback next so I will have read all three of the set that also includes Sorrows of Empire. Chalmers is a card carrying establishment conservative and, for my time and money, the most insightful witness to the trials of our times as he really did have a ring side seat.

Gosh! I hadn't really reviewed my reading till this. Sorry if it seems like bragging. A number of the books mentioned above are still in the process of being read, but most of them have been read at least once, and numerous of them I revisit frequently as I think about what to write for Unknown News. Reflecting on all this it seems like I may be a frustrated grad student feeling a need to report to my thesis advisor on my progress. Please humor me. I guess he also serves who merely sits and reads.

Hospital officials knew of neglect for years

And so did Congress!!!

Excerpt: Top officials at Walter Reed Army Medical Center, including the Army's surgeon general, have heard complaints about outpatient neglect from family members, veterans groups and members of Congress for more than three years.

A procession of Pentagon and Walter Reed officials expressed surprise last week about the living conditions and bureaucratic nightmares faced by wounded soldiers staying at the D.C. medical facility. But as far back as 2003, the commander of Walter Reed, Lt. Gen. Kevin C. Kiley, who is now the Army's top medical officer, was told that soldiers who were wounded in Iraq and Afghanistan were languishing and lost on the grounds, according to interviews.

So -- they are all full of shit.... oh yea, we're not supposed to say shit. We're supposed to let these people treat others like it, however! and lie lie lie to the public!

Soldiers at Walter Reed punished for talking to Washington Post

Excerpt: "Soldiers at Walter Reed Army Medical Center's Medical Hold Unit say they have been told they will wake up at 6 a.m. every morning and have their rooms ready for inspection at 7 a.m., and that they must not speak to the media," our Gannett colleagues at Army Times report this afternoon.

According to Army Times, some of the soldiers believe this is a form of punishment because many of them went on-the-record with The Washington Post to talk about problems -- including mold and rodent infestations -- at the medical facility's Building 18. The Post's reporting caught attention across nation and sparked calls for action to fix the problems that wounded soldiers were facing. The newspaper adds that "it is unusual for soldiers to have daily inspections after Basic Training."

As a Veteran I know the drill. Tell your buddies if anyone else complains you will all be up at 5:00AM ready for inspection. If you don’t like that we will conduct barracks inspections any time of day or night and you and your friends with missing limbs or faces will all be responsible for not keeping this place up to military standards.

Kevin Good

The reports of rat-plagued, lousy, uncaring care at Walter Reed were newsworthy, but not particularly surprising. Based on everything we know about Bush-Cheney priorities, the crappy care vets are receiving is about what I'd expect.

But the idea of retaliating against injured vets for talking to reporters ... it leaves me near speechless. Every time I think these criminal monsters have reached a new low in shameful, treasonous, inhuman behavior, they always go a little bit lower.

JUST MY BELIEFS HERE, consult your own advisers... (I'm usually wrong :-)

I see the US dollar is weakening towards a scary level, below which is an abyss... And while it may be true that the Democrats will rein in El Spender In Chief somewhat, the housing market's weakness constrains the Federal Reserve and makes it more likely that they will lower rates than raise (and thus, remove some $US support.)

However, the $US index might bounce and 80 and go up for a while (that would represent a great opportunity to evacuate the burning building). We're looking, then, at a potentially multi-year devaluation, with some ups and downs -- but trending down:

CHART, CHART

I am ok with these two foreign bond funds: PFBDX and BEGBX (the latter is where Cheney had his money at last report...).

CHART, CHART

There are several other funds to look at. I recommend somewhat conservative funds that invest in high grade corporate and sovereign debt, rather than the risky stuff... but dividends are important while waiting for the dollars decline, so pay attention to yields and duration.

Gold and gold miners -- say GLD and GDX -- are worthy of consideration but after the recent 6 week straight up run, I am cautious (but not selling either.)

It's all about preserving purchasing power, not getting rich. The downside for the US dollar may be 20% or more, but probably not in a dramatic crash. So figure out a plan to diversify, which might include foreign stocks, currencies, metals, oil and energies. But keep some cash for opportunity knocking...

In the long run, alternative and clean energy, plus nanotech, biotech and computer tech will be excellent; I just don't know about buying that crap right now. Probably just hold fast and wait for good risks.

I saw some guys on TV today. The US soldiers in Afghanistan were burdened by their loads and looked like Extra-Terrestrials marching around, but the Afghani warriors looked tough as nails, totally adapted and acclimated -- they don't wear uniforms either, so unless the Ameros kill everyone on sight I don't know how they can distinguish between enemies and non-combatants, if there are any. I have no fucking idea what the US hopes to accomplish there, but apparently the Democrats are even more gung-ho than Bush is about exterminating Afghans. This is going to turn out very badly. Did you watch the special about the ABC newsman Bob Woodruff? Doctors looked at him as if he was a walking miracle! Personally, I think he's up and around due to the PROPER care he received under hie own health insurance care, unlike our soldiers in the Veterans Hospitals.

I will be anxiously watching Bob's continued coverage on the care our brain-injured soldiers receive. A staggering two hundred and five thousand have suffered brain injuries. Don't forget that figure! I hope Bob makes a commitment be a spokesperson for them. He publicly must be told, they must be made aware, no more gag orders on the press!

The way that shill for the Bush cabal lied to him when he answered YES when Bob asked him ''Do you think they're doing everything humanly possible for our injured veterans?''

Is the Angel of Basra alive?

by jos R.

February 28, 2007
PERMANENT LINK
Let me start by thanking you for the work you have put into your site, I much appreciate the information you make available to all of us. Sadly not being employed (again...!) I haven't the funds to send you anything other than these meager thanks and a question.

From time to time I have seen this picture which is presently on your site labeled angelof basra. I have seen only one other like it, shot within seconds of that one. My question is trivial compared to most but it is about the young girl in that photo. She looks dead in it. I guess that I am vainly hoping to be told she is alive and well.

For some reason more than anything else I have seen, these two pictures bother me tremendously. Maybe because even though she bears no resemblance to my own daughter I can't help but feel about as bad as if she were mine. Heck, look at that purple boa she is wearing. My daughter would have put on something like that playing at dress up. Hell, would have been hard too get her to put it away even. I can't get her or thoughts about her parents out of my head. No parent should have to go through outliving their child but this is monstrous, absolutely unforgivable. I would hate anyone who did this to mine, so I can only guess how her relatives feel.

Sorry to go on so. I can be so gabby and I have never said this to anyone and am unloading. This is so bad neither gods nor devils could forgive us! But do you know any more about this child and if she survived?

No need to rush me an answer, you have plenty to do as is. so anyway, I hope we stop doing his real soon -- hell, tomorrow would be nice but still way too late as it is!

Again, thank you for doing this,

zen hugs,

jos R.

Thanks for your kind comments about the work, appreciated sincerely, but what's really sweet is the opportunity to spread some good news for a change. According to this Associated Press article ("Angel of Basra" survived), published a year after that particular attack, Ibtihal Jassem had survived and was limping along under the care of her grandparents in Basra. I've been unable to find any more recent report of Ibtihal's health or whereabouts, but she survived her injuries, and as of 2004 she was alive and as well as could be expected, living in occupied Iraq.

And yeah, it would be nice, it would be excellent if we'd stop doing this to people, but all the accumulating evidence says the American war machine is just getting warmed up. And of course, the raging sadness you feel, we feel it too.

It's beyond me how anyone could look at such pictures, or even imagine what we all know is going on, without tears and apologies. Only psychopaths could order this violence day after day, year after year, with no concern or caring for the huge number of victims, even calling for a "surge" in the violence, and doing their damnedest to extend the war into another nation, and throughout the Middle East. We have psychopaths, certifiable murderous nuts, giving orders in the White House ...

U.S. will attend Middle East summit

by The Canadian

U.S., Syria, Iran to attend Iraq security conference Wow! What a remarkable headline! The US, Iraq , Iran and Syria are planning a round table discussion. Honestly, I find this a most interesting meeting.

Also present will be reps from the G8 and Iraq 's neighbors.

I'll have to muse on this …but my first glance is to consider the idea that cooler heads are beginning to prevail.

Serious saber-rattling aside, President Ahmadinajad is neither as popular at home as his government press indicates, nor is his very youthful population sufficiently engaged in the economy. Perhaps multilateral political and economic pressures against Iran are beginning to have a desired effect.

I still think the risk of a large conflict is very real. There are no moderates left in this theatre.

TC

After so many proven lies, I hesitate to take anything from U.S. officials at face value. My gut reaction when I first heard the news was that it was pure propaganda, but on further reflection it could be that Bush-Cheney has stubbed its toe on reality, and they know they must backstep.

The accounts I've read have said that the summit would be held in Baghdad, which would have to mean holding it behind U.S. lines, safely inside the fortified "green zone." But with the recent U.S. kidnapping of diplomats from the Iranian consulate, you have to wonder whether Iran would be willing to send high-level representatives for "chats" in such a place. Doesn't it seem to you that, say, Sweden or Amsterdam might have been a better location for such a summit?

Falconers, without fanfare

by Mr. Chuckles

February 28, 2007
PERMANENT LINK
OK, now in the context of the Iraq/Afghanistan wars, consider that the Democrats voted to allow Bush to go to war, they voted mammoth appropriations every year, and they voted for the PATRIOT Acts, the War Commissions Act, and various other un-Constitutional laws.

In other words, THEY SWALLOW.

SO.... assuming that they continue to fund the Iraq/Afghanistan wars in March. That allows Bush to continue well into 2008 without doing anything different (the only power Congress has that is veto-proof is to refuse to appropriate money, since Bush cannot veto a law he does not receive...) That means that, assuming a Democrat wins the White House and the Democrats prevail in the Congressional elections, the next President and the Democratic Congress will be responsible for losing the wars.

Why are they so meek now, therefore? This is a totally losing strategy.

But why expect anything more from the Democratic Party? They are pro-PATRIOT Act, pro-war enablers. There is really no other way to see this, except to view them as butt-stupid ignoramuses -- which in fact, quite a few Democratic members of the House happen to be, as it does not require genius to grease the party machine and get elected to a two-bit seat in the House (I doubt if there is a lower form of political life than as a member of the House of Representatives -- except perhaps as a Representative's gofer.)

You know what happens next. It is 99.9% certain that America will be at war until we lose, and that will take a few years. All we can hope for is less than total defeat and something short of complete bankruptcy. There will be no prison terms for Bush and Cheney, after all, everything they have done has been legislated, enabled, authorized and appropriated by BOTH major political parties.

Mr. Chuckles

P.S. "FALCON" is based on a simple extract from their TIA database. You could call it a proof of concept. In this case the search criteria were focused on "criminals" and their present locations. What amazes me is that 20 million illegal immigrants can be invisible to TIA!

Scary stuff, and of course, everything's going according to the darkest, most tyrannical plans imaginable.

Maybe you're being tongue-in-cheek with that last remark, about illegal immigrants being oddly invisible to the feds? Of course, it's a question of what serves the interests of the rich and powerful elite who purchase and control American lawmakers. It serves their purposes to plan for a police state that protects them while oppressing the rest of us. Here in the pre-police state, though, it would be counterproductive, to the elite, to address the problems of illegal immigration, because to the elite, illegal immigration is a necessity, not a problem.

Operation Falcon and
the looming police state

by Mike Whitney, InformationClearingHouse

Excerpt: The Falcon operations can only be understood in the broader context of the ongoing assault on the constitutional system of checks and balances; including the repeal of habeas corpus, warrantless wiretaps and searches, and the use of torture.

For the last 6 years, the Bush administration has been busy dismantling the legal safeguards which protect the citizen from the arbitrary and, oftentimes, ruthless actions of the state. To that end, detention camps are being prepared by Halliburton within the U.S., secret courts have been established which deny due process of law, American citizens are arrested without charge, law enforcement is increasingly militarized, and the media has strengthened its alliance with the central government.

Additionally, in October 2006, George Bush quietly changed the Insurrection Act, which prevented the President from deploying troops inside the United States. Bush's revision effectively overturns the Posse Comitatus Act which put strict limits on the executive's power to use US troops in domestic situations. Just days earlier Bush signed a similar bill, "The John Warner Defense Authorization Act of 2007" which gives Bush the power to take command of National Guard units across the country which are traditionally under the control of the state governors.

Without fanfare, Bush has taken control of all armed forces and militias inside and outside of the country and now has a monopoly on all the state-sanctioned tools of organized violence. It's a coup that could never have succeeded without the tacit cooperation of the media.

Bush is now free to declare martial law in response to a natural disaster, a pandemic or a terrorist attack. The congress is powerless to stop him.

Also, Bush recently signed the Military Commissions Act of 2006, which allows the president to arbitrarily declare citizens and non citizens "enemy combatants" and imprison them indefinitely without charge. The new law gives Bush the authority to disregard the Geneva Conventions and the 8th amendment's ban on "cruel and unusual" punishment and apply "harsh interrogation" which may include torture. The act effectively repeals habeas corpus, the cornerstone of American jurisprudence and the Bill of Rights.

The Military Commissions Act cannot coexist with the US Constitution; the two are mutually exclusive.

The Military Commissions Act, The John Warner Defense Authorization Act, the Homeland Security Act, the PATRIOT Act, and the myriad presidential signing statements have conferred absolute power on George Bush. The question is whether or not some incident will arise that will persuade Bush to use his extraordinary new powers.

General Tommy Franks predicted that a "massive, casualty producing event" might cause "our population to question our own Constitution and begin to militarize our country;" a scenario that many see as likely now.
Is that it? Will another terrorist attack provide the rationale for overturning republican government and declaring martial law?

If so, then we should know what to expect.

According to FEMA (Federal Emergency Management Agency) it would mean "the suspension of the normal functions of civilian government, implying the cancellation or postponement of state and federal elections." (Global Research) It would also "close public and government facilities not critical for continuity of essential operations." (FEMA)

Northern Command would assume control and under "the classified 'Continuity of Government" (COG) Operations Plan' a secret 'shadow government' would become functional, re-deploying key staff to secret locations." (Global Research)

Also, "all forms of public gatherings or citizen's protests which question the legitimacy of the emergency procedures and the installation of a police state" would be banned. The military would be deployed to carry out "police and judicial" functions.

Martial law in the US would be applied with the utmost attention to public sensibilities and perceptions, avoiding the garish display of force we see in Iraq. It would be a "kinder and gentler" martial law with a limited number of military personnel on the streets (just enough to remind us that things have changed) and an emphasis on "preemptive" policing operations. (Expect Falcons' 4, 5 and 6 etc) It would probably be disguised by a carefully crafted public relations campaign and a predictably cheery moniker, such as, "The Security Enhancement and Homeland Fortification Act". The possibilities are limitless.

The Bush administration is also prepared if some unforeseen tragedy befalls congress, like another anthrax attack.

In fact, the American Enterprise Institute, to which the Bush team is closely aligned, has already "issued proposals for the operation of Congress following a catastrophic terrorist attack". They advocate the "APPOINTING" of individuals to the House of Representatives "to fill the seats of dead or incapacitated members, a first in American history" "The Continuity of Government Commission is self-commissioned', its members being neither elected nor appointed by any government body and mostly made up of professional lobbyists". (Read the whole article: http://www.conservativeusa.org/cog-ronpaul.htm) (Coincidentally, Newsweek article "White House Rehearses for Domestic Attack" 2-23-07; "The White House is staging a high-level exercise Saturday to test responses to the prospect of a massive domestic terrorist attack." These drills are a critical part of the C.O.G. regimen dating back to the Reagan administration)

According to the AEI's plan, the future United States congress will be comprised of lobbyists and industry representatives. What else would one expect from an organization that believes that corporate interests should determine policy?

These are the chilling precedents which have paved the way for further government lawlessness and abuse. They foreshadow the ominous transition from representative government to autocratic rule; from inalienable rights to martial law.

Rogue factor & Iran

by The Canadian

February 27, 2007
PERMANENT LINK
You know I have been detailing the coming of this moment for some time now.

We are literally on the edge of a go/no go expansion of the Middle East war. If started, this war will have a great potential to consume the whole of the Middle East with a rapid fury and desolation of person and property unlike anything the world has seen since the major destruction of European population centers during WW2.

The situation of war or peace literally hinges on a successful outcome of the Saud family to find a mediated settlement between Iran and its nuclear detractors.

Despite the cacophony of media noise on this subject, most telling for me are 5 key factors:
• US warships on patrol within and near the ME have NOT been rotated out of duty as they should have been a month or so ago

• US strategic oil reserves are being hugely boosted

• Unusually large shipments of bunker-buster munitions to Israel are now complete (these shipments have continued to be approved by Congress after the Dems have won power)

• The threat of Korea has been assuaged (for the time being)

• Turkey has agreed to give Israeli fly-over rights of its southern territory bordering Northern Iran
My chief concern at this time is that a rogue event will tip the scales in favor of war. Now what do you think the odds are that a rogue event will be engineered? (This is a rhetorical question.)

Unfortunately the House of Saud has not been all that successful with diplomacy in the past. Also, I do fear their intervention is biased, as their Sunni nation is not likely to want to see a nuclear armed Shi’ite rival.

Also, as I have mentioned before:
• I think Bush is insane (like Hitler, he thinks God talks to him, literally, and he is a believer in Apocrypha Evangelism)

• The Israelis believe Iran's threat to their very existence is truly an existential one

• Bush has only a short time remaining before Congress and the House can begin to strip him of power
TC

Picture me sadly shaking my head. We both know you know more than I know about all this, but even to me, any attempt at optimism feels fake.

All the signs indicate that America's being run by warmongering megalomaniacs, and Congress, now controlled by an alleged 'opposition party', has shown no interest in facing such an unpleasant fact. So lots and lots of people are going to die, and it's really only a question of when the next round of killing will begin.

Every possible sin

A new series called Dirt on cable channel "FX" starring Courtney Cox as the editor of a tabloid-style entertainment news rag has some fairly explicit scenes. I mean, really. I have never seen anything on national TV -- with every possible sin -- more worthy of Doctor Dobson's concentrated attention :-) I bet the fundsters are going over past episodes with notepads and Kleenex :-)

Scrabbler

Sounds interesting, but we haven't seen Dirt, of course. Just rabbit ears here.

We're now getting reruns of FX's The Shield, and it's a lot of fun. They've definitely hyped reality up a few notches for dramatic effect, but it's still by far the most realistic dramatic representation of police work I've ever seen on TV ...

Helen & Harry

I wouldn't watch The Shield if you paid me. I am sick of cop/law/judge/war shows! I like martial arts, sci-fi, humor and the occasional tearjerker :-)

I can't sincerely *recommend* Dirt, but I am waiting anxiously for Tuesday night :-)

About 5 (or 6?) episodes have aired so far. You would want to start at the beginning and see the thing unfold in all of its glory.

A fascination with it is that "Lucy" (aka Courtney Cox) is actually running a civilian intelligence service to gather dirt on celebrities, and the magazine is published weekly -- which is convenient for the script writers. Unfortunately, she has to actually get involved in manufacturing intel by "turning" people...who then become naturally bent and end up creating their own dirt. Very twisted. For example, she hired a hooker to seduce an NBA star, and had her photographer get pics of the hooker and the NBA star in the hot tub; then she persuades the NBA guy to inform on *his* associates in order to have her not run the photos of him getting boned up the ass with a dildo by the hooker :-)

So it is like real life after all.

Scrabbler

I totally understand the aversion to cops and lawyers and such on TV. They're all basically the same shows we watched growing up, with different and generally worse actors spouting pretty much the same lines and telling pretty much the same stories, in which virtually all cops are heroes. I first watched The Shield on a dare, but it won me over 'cuz it has a few good cops, a few certifiably bad cops, and a few cops in the grey area in between.

Helen & Harry

And I totally understand that it is a Good Show. Very popular and interesting.

The cop show I do like, forgot to mention... Reno 911 on Comedy Central. They actually have a movie appearing now in theaters, but I'll wait for the cable reruns. You want cop shows, that it the one to see. I never get tired of it. Classic. You'll never think of cops the same way again.

I've seen a few clips now and again. Looks funny. And I like the shorts the guys wear.

I think we must get to the dumb-down masses the same way the media propagandists have been doing for the last 30 years, do it with thousands of short messages that play at what little consciousness they have left.

They have no time for long lexicons to decipher, they haven't read about the past, they don't remember the past, and they seem to not care about the past. They do however still treasure their pocketbooks and worry about the roof over they heads. Tie those things together with these messages and we've got their attention.

They are used to being sold things they don't need, and unfortunately they have been sold so many lies that it has become very hard for them to tell the difference between what is good for them and what is bad. If presented the right way, we can make them take notice that their future is in jeopardy and that they can take part in changing that.

My take on The U.S. vs John Lennon:  Watching the movie, seeing that Lennon would have made life a living hell for this group of neocon bastards today, I sure as hell miss him!

I don't particularly like that I had to hear and see and be reminded that dirtbags like Liddy and Mario Coumo were in this video, but they had to be heard and seen to believe that there were and still are assholes like this around. And in order to show people how fucking wrong they were, as well as to show the viewer what WE were up against. So far I like this film!

I didn't like seeing Geraldo Rivero in this. He may have been a nice guy back in the day and I know he loved John, but John would have never approved of the new Geraldo and his take on this phony war on terror!

And this new world order? Lennon would have seen through it right from the beginning.

News from Nablus

Israelis raid Nablus, impose curfew, take over radio TV, close entrances, exits

Excerpt: Dozens of Israeli jeeps and armored vehicles poured into Nablus overnight Sunday, placing large areas of the city under curfew and conducting house-to-house arrest raids in one of the largest West Bank military operations in months.

The army also took over local television and radio stations, ordering people to remain indoors and warning residents that the clampdown would remain in effect for several days, Palestinian residents said. Two soldiers and several Palestinians were lightly wounded in clashes, officials said.

The article does not say what TV news reported, that the 80 or so jeeps followed a bunch of bulldozers.... THAT means, the Israelis are about to destroy some Palestinian houses.

Some networks showed footage of Israelis shooting through small round holes in the rear windows of their jeeps, the windows not being clear glass, they could not possibly have seen whom they were shooting at. Out in the streets were only teenagers throwing stones, and that from a safe distance, which certainly could do harm to the armored jeeps the Israelis were driving, all safety glass windows shut tight.

If Israel "discovered" an "explosive laboratory" the day before, they must have been there sniffing around for days.... or were they camouflaged as Arabs? They do love to dress up those Israelis!

*           *           *
It gets worse: Sy Hersh's new story, and watch Wolf Blitzer's Late Edition.

Is the Administration's new policy benefiting our enemies in the war on terrorism?

Hersh was on Blitzer, accusing the Administration not only of planning war with Iran, but of funding all sorts of governments and groups with the Iraq money, funding all sorts of covet operations which were not authorized by Congress, and which are definitely illegal. He said the Bush Admin is supporting groups that are involved with the groups that are responsible for 9/11, whom the US should be arresting instead of supporting.

Also discusses covert, military operations that the Pentagon ran (and is still running?)

The Story is entitled "The Redirection" -- "Is the Administration's new policy benefiting our enemies in the war on terrorism?"

Duncan Hunter and Jane Harman were also on the show... both actually FOR a war with Iran in reality, she is certainly one of the MOST pro Israel Reps in the House, and Israel definitely WANTS THIS WAR.. Harman just returned from the "Middle East".... (Well we know which part of the Middle East Harmon visited....) Blitzer never asks Harman what she thinks of the Hersh story, and she spins the Iran war thing as if she and Hunter are on opposite sides (which Blitzer needs to look like he's a journalist instead of a Mossad agent), but she is obviously anxious to get out of Iraq in order to get into Iran..... When push comes to shove, the entire Congress will go for this war, even more than they went for the Iraq war.

And if they aren't planning a war on Iran, what ARE they doing??

Gulf states agree to IAF overflights en route to Iran (and NATO working on Turkey.... Israel and Israel discussing flights over Iraq....)

Déjà vu for Watada

by DanD

February 25, 2007
PERMANENT LINK
Iraq War objector Watada charged again

Excerpt: Ehren Watada's first trial began early this month but ended abruptly when the judge, Lt. Col. John Head, said he did not believe the soldier fully understood a pretrial agreement he signed admitting elements of the charges. As part of that agreement, the Army dropped two of the charges against him, lowering his potential sentence to four years.

Well, it seems like "déjà vu" all over again! This is my prediction of what will happen to patriot Watada.

First off, the Army will keep Watada in legal limbo for at least several months (or leading right up 'till shortly before the "Iran plan" is launched) with these newly filed charges. Ultimately however, because of the double-jeopardy conundrum intentionally produced by the mistrial's judge, Lt. Col. Head, all charges will be dropped against Watada and, in the long run, I also believe that the Army is not going to discharge Watada.

Instead, because they are so short of "boots-on-the-battlefield," the Army is going to simply reassign this erstwhile Lieutenant (since he would "officially" become a soldier of reconstituted "good standing") to a unit that is slated to go to Afghanistan. Watada has already declared that he has no qualms about serving in Afghanistan. THEN, when he gets there, the neo-con directed "Dark Side" of the Special Forces Branch will arrange for Watada to get "Pat Tillman'd." THIS will serve as a not-too-subtle warning to ANY service member NOT TO ROCK THE WAR BOAT with facts of its illegal status.

Personally, because he has been so successful in his protest against the Iraq "war," I think that Lt. Ehren Watada is dead meat.

To make this work well, the military will continue dragging out Watada's "mistrial" re-indictment, and ultimate "technical" exoneration until not too many people are paying attention to it any more, especially after our prospective Iran debacle gets shifted into high gear and a few hundred thousand people suddenly get dead in just a few days. Then he'll get his orders for Afghanistan.

This would also be a much more effective authoritarian "smackback" against war dissension in the ranks than, say, just running Watada over by a truck outside some courthouse in the States, because that would still mean unassailable victory for Watada and by concatenation, all future military Watada-wannabes. Fundamentally, any blatantly obvious kind of assassination would still sustain Watada as the victor and anti-war folk hero because he got at least a little bit of what he wanted before he died.

But under the scenario that I've outlined above, Watada doesn't "win" his court case (the government having avoided a "public-opinion verifying" acquittal on a "mistrial" technicality), MUST STILL go and fight in one of Bush's quagmires, and is still punished by being "executed," using a tactically intentional clusterfuck circumstance with which to "hang" him (considering his specialty, perhaps an artillery version of "friendly fire"). And when he does die "in combat" (probably sitting in a port-a-potty taking a dump), EVERYBODY will know that his death was specifically "the plan."

THIS WAY, all the troops who are still serving in harm's way are also wordlessly instructed that THIS is what happens to you when you foolishly allow Constitutional patriotism to cloud your judgement and stupidly embarrass the CiC. And before Watada dies, "they'll make sure that he realizes it also.

As the Plame case has confirmed, our current crowd of global war crooks at the White House are a wholly vindictive lot, who will make absolutely sure that no patriotic deed shall EVER go unpunished.

I had a killer 14-hour headache. It ended Friday morning after an 8-hour sleep, followed by an rush of energy that got my lazy ass out of the chair an onto my elliptic stair climber, a cyclist's treadmill of sorts. And now comes the desire to write.

The words come from everywhere, out of thin air, pouring from the gray matter that's left between my two ears. And so it begins, what I see so many times looking into the candle's flame.

I imagine I'm on a escalator, with one exception, I am its source of power going past and away and towards. I see all the wars started over man's lust and tumultuous greed. So many have died. I pass what seems like ocean lengths of dead bodies, some still clinging to life, clawing at my ankles. I climb faster to get away from the blood of so many innocent precious lives. I am trying to get higher into the clouds and small patches of light that seem so very far away from me. Many times I slip into the puddles...

A voice from out of nowhere gives me courage, telling me a peaceful, humble future is over the horizon, telling me my Shangri-La of a world waits for me, but I must be patient, for there is more suffering to witness, more violence begot from the lust for power to rule and control all of mankind. The voice tells me that it will fail again and again, and it is because of the failures we will have a future of peace, a place where humans of that horrid nature cease to exist.

Sweat is now covering most of my body, and my heart rate is fast but not dangerous. All the time my eyes are closed, still seeing this futuristic flash before me. What a mad rush, empowering and disabling at the same time.

Many ripples in this pond life has offered for the taking. Rides only a crazy person would even think to go on... Can't turn around now!

Second, I would like to raise the issue of the "I was only following orders" defense against prosecution for war crimes. Consider preparing an authenticated listing of the deceptions/crimes/torture committed by the US military under orders from the Bush/Cheney administration. Provide the list to all military personnel, and give them the ability to "opt out" of military service based on conscience/illegal war. Those who remain would then be denied the "I was only following orders" defense in the War Crimes trial that may be convened after the US exits Iraq/Iran/Afghanistan.

Isn't it about time to say to the soldiers "what you are doing to the Iraqi people is immoral and probably violates international law."

I think that in the future wood frame houses will be seen as primitive, rude structures. The whole design is based on cheap energy to waste and a disposability factor for the home itself, which isn't intended to last more than 40 or 50 years.

In fact, manually built frame houses are the most ridiculous. New robot technology will build a home in a few days using spray-on materials, thus reducing costs dramatically.

On top of that, economics will force people to use new techniques, designs and materials. New engineering for the masses! Haha.

I am upset that the majority of truth seekers (all of whom I love) are being bamboozled and there is little or nothing I can say to cut through the layers of programming. ... MORE ...

Congress of mass destruction

I was reading the what really happened.com website this morning and they had an article regarding a scenario where Israel conducts an air strike against Iran by going over Iraq airspace on their way to the target. This is a scary but very plausible prediction of future events.

Right now there are, I think, three U.S. aircraft carrier battle groups in the Persian Gulf. This gulf is big, but so is one battle group let alone three. They have to be spread out so far that I'll bet they have the entire gulf clogged up with ships. They really have no way to move around strategically. I guess they are depending on their new space age weapons for defense.

They also have their crews on alert. And you can only keep a crew on alert for so long before their ability to stay effective goes downhill. So if anything is going to happen it's going to be soon.

I see nothing but disaster for the U.S. And not one 'future' candidate for the presidency is saying one fucking word of any import. But every one of them is praising Israel and swearing allegiance to them.

We are becoming the new Nazis. God help us.

Re The soldier prince

But still the news (controlled by the monied interests) continues to use the word 'insurgent'. The fuckheads in Washington, D.C. still use the word 'insurgent'. They are on intentional collision course to extend the war to Iran and who knows where else.

As for "weapons of mass destruction" I'd like to say that that is a term better used to describe the President and the Congress.

Have a pleasant weekend.

everybody acts like it is not there. you don't read about this in the U.S. newspapers. But there is also the fact that at present, Israel does not have an atomic reactor for producing electricity. So what is it for??

Re Senate roll call of death

I was furious with Hillary for voting that way, but I always felt that it would come back to haunt her! It was just pandering.

E13

Totally true. And has Hillary Clinton ever taken any political position on anything, that wasn't pandering?

Helen & Harry

Somebody just sent me an article that says Bill Clinton earned $40 million since leaving office. Isn't that all obscene?

E13

Obscener than most obscenities. And I tell ya, I'm almost as weary of politicians named Clinton as I am of politicians named Bush.

Helen & Harry

Me too! Also, if I'm going to vote for a woman, I want her to respect women and children, and not try to be more warlike than a man. And Bill.... well.... who knows what he's up to? Another 4 (or 8?) years of him, and God only knows what messes we'll see -- of the private nature.... and he didn't manage the Middle East either. Also, Hillary will NEVER do anything that is fair regarding the Palestinians. AIPAC OWNS her, and Bill too...
