So let me se if I get this right. In order to understand and appreciate
the ultimate highs in life you must experience a few lows or at

acknowledge their existence. Do I have that right?
While watching a child prodigy play her cello tonight I thought, Wow, the
only place to go in this young ladies life is up. She can only get
better, and that sent my mind a-whirling on about the poor little souls
in life that were born into a different set of circumstances. That must
be one of those ultimate lows, and extreme poverty in a war-torn nation
would most definitely be one of them.
Mentally retarded or permanently physically disabled would be
another, that would register in my mind as one of the extreme lows.
But what about "in between," like most of us?
Most of us are not gifted geek geniuses who can easily interpret quantum
physics, nor are most of us
mentally retarded. The vast majority of the population are not
rich, but then again we're not poor, we're not in a war-torn poverty
stricken nation. We're in an economically challenged stressed
out, warmongering nation of greedy wanna-a-be's. Ahh, you had to go there,
didn't you, Kathy...
It would be nice to have just a little equality -- nothing major, nothing
way out and extreme -- if only for a short time!
Maybe it would make us care a bit more.
Might wake a few more people up.
Since nothing has worked recently, my daydream would be like this...
This would require a few of those MIT graduates out there to invent a
couple of new virtual reality devices.
First off, something that a really gifted brainiac could place on his or her
head for a few hours to become mentally insufficient, totally incapable
of understanding the basic skills needed to function in the world around
them. They'd have to depend for their every need on some one else. After
experiencing this, the person watches a tape of themselves becoming this
other person, and hopefully gains an understanding and respect for people
with this disability. Most of all, they learns how truly lucky they are.
For those people to better understand and get the full meaning and feel the
effects of this, I would propose once a week a planeload of people living
in a once economically sound but now messed up nation of warmongers should
be dropped off in a war-torn poverty-stricken nation for about 48 hours.
The next thing I would like to see happen, and this is only to be fair, I
would like to see a group of scientists get together and make a batch of
serum to be given to mentally-challenged and severely physically
disabled individuals, so that they could
experience life with a perfectly functioning mind and body, even if it's just for a few days.
And I would bring in on a daily basis a plane full of children and
adults from a war-torn nation to our war-mongering economically so-so
nation for just a few days...
Hey, it's only fair right?
