"To live only for some future goal is shallow.
It's the sides of the mountain that sustain life, not the top."Robert M. Pirsig
I knew something was up in Baltimore a while ago, when I was standing
on the sidewalk outside the building where a support group I attended, The Portal, had just met. (Click this link to read about The Portal).
Four of us were standing there on the street discussing what size and
dimensions the banner for the pride march should be. I was holding my
satchel I always carry, and my friend Rickie was holding a book I had just given him.
We were outside yakking, none of us was acting suspicious. Two of the people with
us were waiting for the bus to come, and me and my ex were gonna leave after the two
people we were talking to left.
While we all were sharing last-minute ideas, suddenly these clean-cut
whitebread twits with light yellow polo shirts and khaki pants came up
to us. They had official looking patches on their short sleeves, they
carried walkie talkie radios, and they told us to "disperse"
or they'd call the cops to lock us up. I thought WTF??!! Just for
talking??!! So I asked Twit #1. What exactly were we doing that
warranted this? He got arrogant and cranked up the threats. So rather
than cause a fuss we all said our goodbyes and started to disperse. The
twits were impatiently hovering.
The two guys who were heading to the bus stop had to walk alongside us
part of the way. That's when I was informed more about these yellow-shirted idiots. They harass ANYONE who doesn't look white, "normal,"
straight enough, businesslike, or yuppie enough on the street as soon as
the sun begins going down. They hurry you up if you look different or
your skin is a bit darker than condensed milk and you aren't walking
fast enough or you look like you might be thinking of socializing.
This
harassment is because of some kind of "Keep Baltimore Safe" bullsh*t. The "powers that be" in Baltimore are doing this to 'control
crime'.
Well, fancy that.
Now I find out how this agenda has grown, and Council Vice-President Robert Curran, this
little dicktater, is all for MORE police state tactics. Curran
wants to lock down certain streets at night. He's Skeered. And I bet every
tweek suzy and dick conservative yup boy in the more affluent areas of
town agrees it's a wonderful idea to lock down Baltimore, to pretend to protect the
children or whatever. And more importantly, to keep desperate drug addicts and po' folks
from taking their STUFF.
Baltimore councilman wants virtual lockdown of high-crime streets to cut murder rate
I am beyond pissed. I am one of those nocturnal freaks who takes walks
at 3 AM. I want to MOVE to Baltimore, because it isn't like Harford County with

| nothing to do, nowhere to go. How dare these political fuckers impose a
curfew on Baltimore?
If Curran or any other self-absorbed politician
wants to lower the murder rate, he needs to help people on their
terms. He needs to SPEND some money and time. And he has to get off the
goddamn power trip and LISTEN to people tell him what they need and
help them, as they know best. He needs to EARN their TRUST first. Because the
people living on violent streets are the ones dealing with crime
every day, not this inflated order fetishizing idiot Curran.
He can
afford to insulate himself from the rough areas in Baltimore. He never
has to set foot in Like Swebo or on North Avenue, so he can allow all
sorts of fantasies to run rampant in his paranoid little head to justify
a police state in Baltimore that would make Giuliani green with envy.
Baltimore is a chaotic kind of city, where it's not so friendly to
people who like to control others' lives. Baltimore has issues It's dirty,
dangerous and full of problems, but dammit, I still like it. Why? Because
it's ALIVE. And I can accept that freedom is messy, risky, and dangerous
sometimes.
Baltimore -- they call it CharmCity -- is still free enough to have
the sense to rebel against the empty lifeless dreams of control
freak social engineers who would destroy all the people who are not
'upstanding', proper, white, or 'productive' enough. They'd kill the very
Soul of Baltimore if they could get away with it.
Some neighborhoods in
Baltimore are rebuilding in their own character, without obeying the
cultural dictates of the ruling class or using their money to do it The
Portal is a grass roots revitalizing group that IS the true heart
of what makes Baltimore GREAT...
People like Curran want to make
Baltimore into a sprawling monocultural tourist trap where all the
tragedies of this failed system are locked out of sight and all the
diversity is controlled, like say, in Bel Air, City of
Demons...
Bel Air, the trap of never ending rows of houses, and they all look the
same.
And since all the houses look alike, the streets have to as well.
Lawns must be clipped at the same length, and these uniform boring
streets become longer and longer and stretch out towards the horizon - a
desert of order in a imprisoning cul de sac.
Order does not produce
creativity and life in our society. It does however create stress,
sterility and death.
Living in the Sprawl has certainly made me feel suicidal some days. The
isolation, it's a killer. But there is a certain kind of freedom attached to
inner city life, harder to find in the suburbs. Urbanites do
not need a car to get along, they do not need a spacious living room.
They need a place to sleep in, but above all they need the urban
networks, the urban fabric, with all that comes with this package. But
that kind of need is not profitable, and that is not good for
BUSINESS. So what's in that package?
The philosopher Robert M. Pirsig wrote of it when he said, "If
everybody in New York had had the same incomes, the same type of
clothes, the same background, the same possibilities, the city would
die. It has always been this way, a million beggars mixed with each
other. And right behind the beggars, the ranked among the best step

their stretched limousines. Sky scrapers and parks, diamond tiaras in the
display windows and alcoholics who throw up in the streets. One gets
shocked and motivated." (Pirsig, 1991).
And that LIFE and DIVERSITY is what people like Curran FEAR, because
they cannot CONTROL it. They can't BUY it or SELL it either.
Here's the pathetic fascist fucker's webpage. He is a Democrat. "third way"
no doubt. Councilman Curran was first elected to office as a member of
the Baltimore City Democratic State Central Committee in 1982 and is
currently vice chair of the Baltimore Democratic Party. He also serves
on the executive committee of the Maryland Democratic Party.
Here's his email address, if you want to give him a piece: rcurran@baltimorecitycouncil.com
And this cat, this Panther ain't gonna take this shit laying down. If power-tripping authority figures like this dumbass Curran wanna poke an orange and black tiger, to try
to force it into a cage and make it behave perform and be tamed, don't be surprised if said authorities get their hands bitten off by
the sharp outrage of a free people fighting for their right to be who
they ARE.
