Hatfields and the McCoys.
The Israeli talking point now seems to be that 9/11 "changed everything," and that the world ought to follow Israel's lead in destroying terrorists, wherever they may be found.

If we wait for peace to "just happen", it never will.
A global solution needs to be negotiated and imposed, perhaps in a way similar to the way South Africa was dealt with.

Also, Israeli spokesmen stresses the importance of distinguishing between "terrorism" and "counter-terrorism". The former being intentional violence against civilians and the latter being the well-intentioned but occasional tragically badly aimed bomb.
In reality though, not only are military solutions doomed unless either a) genocide is completed, killing all "terrorists" and everyone in their families, clans and countries, etc. (impractical due to global dispersion of ethnic populations); or b) root causes, such as injustice are eliminated. And, frankly, I would guess that many "terror" attacks are not political at all, but are motivated by a desire for revenge. Until the killing stops the natural human desire for revenge will continue as well.
Another point some Israelis and Christians want to make is that God deeded Palestine to the Israelis 3,000 years ago. Their return was prophesized, but given how poor the Palestinians are and how wealthy Israel is, I wonder why Israel doesn't just offer to buy out the few remaining Palestinians? And since their Arab brethren are rolling in petrodollars, why couldn't everyone chip in to buy out the Palestinians so that they could afford to buy or lease a new, more peaceful homeland?
Or does God demand that Israel kill and steal when obviously a Goldman Sach's LBO would be more profitable for everyone involved?
(Why can't we all just get along :-)
I don't think that the world can afford to wait for Israel and Palestine to negotiate an end to their problems. Their festering, foul blood-feud is ruining things everywhere else and preventing solutions to other problems.
Of course, the U.S. is doing the same thing in Iraq that Israel is doing in Palestine, so perhaps there is no basis for the U.S. to advise Israel on proper behavior. Nor do I think there is a place for organized religion at the peace table. This entire affair has cast modern religions in a very bad light, especially the "Christians" who ought to know better (after all, they have the New Testament and the Jews are stuck with the Old!)
If we wait for peace to "just happen", it never will. A global solution needs to be negotiated and imposed, perhaps in a way similar to the way South Africa was dealt with. Everyone, including the Israelis and the Palestinians will be better off if the Middle Eastern Hatfield-McCoy feud can be brought to an end before it triggers WWIII.
