Big changes at very high speeds |

It's interesting to read that the Alabama DHS
website advised -- until the web page was taken
down -- that single-issue advocacy groups such
as ecological activists and animal rightists are
potential terrorists...
Are these people actually Enemies of the
State, with actualized Capability and matching
Intent? Or is "The State" becoming paranoid,
perhaps in the early stages of a schizoid break
with reality -- or perhaps this is a pathetic
cry for help from one of the 21st Century's
backwaters where bureaucrats have run amok?
Perhaps it only seems ironic that the most
religious people may be more prone to the
delusion that God really wants people to die
and kill each other to advance ideologies
(because God, I guess, is unable to do his own killing).
But, yes, once a person believes that he
or she is directly channeling God's voice, or
that he or she is in possession of an
infallible, literally true and perfect Book
that must be obeyed, how far away is the
Believer from acting upon those desires? After
all, if God grants True Believers infinite,
immortal life if only they Obey, then why
should the Believer refrain from carrying out
the deeds so clearly and literally provided by
The Book?
For God's sake, yes, kill the infidels, stone the sinners,
smite the heathens, and spread God's
Word...become a Prayer Warrior? True Believers
don't really die, they just go to Heaven.
What do they have to lose?

Alabama Department of Homeland Security warns of 'terrorists' in gay rights and anti-war organizations Associated Press
Excerpt:
The Alabama Department of Homeland Security has taken down a Web site it operated that included gay rights and anti-war organizations in a list of groups that could include terrorists.
The Web site identified different types of terrorists, and included a list of groups it believed could spawn terrorists. The list also included environmentalists, animal rights advocates and abortion opponents.
The director of the department, Jim Walker, said his agency received a number of calls and e-mails from people who said they felt the site unfairly targeted certain people just because of their beliefs. He said he plans to put the Web site back on the Internet, but will no longer identify specific types of groups.
Howard Bayliss, chairman of the gay and lesbian advocacy group Equality Alabama, said he doesn't understand why gay rights advocates would be on the list.
"Our group has only had peaceful demonstrations. I'm deeply concerned we've been profiled in this discriminatory matter," Bayliss said.
The site included the groups under a description of what it called "single-issue" terrorists. That group includes people who feel they are trying to create a better world, the Web site said. It said that in some communities, law enforcement officers consider certain single issue groups to be a threat.
"Single-issue extremists often focus on issues that are important to all of us. However, they have no problem crossing the line between legal protest and ... illegal acts, to include even murder, to succeed in their goals," it read.
Walker said the site had been up since spring 2004 ...

And actually, that's what happened, just last week:
Well, I bet Mr. Uhl is going to have a few
years to rethink a few things while he is
serving time in prison. And, you know, eternal
life is subjectively *even* longer while behind
bars.

Seriously. Is America going crazy, collectively
and individually? Have the advertisers and
government propagandists and leftists and
rightists all stopped working their day jobs to
pursue simultaneous Meme Wars?
In a sense, yes. Serious hobbyists, at least!
Take, for example, the obsessiveness with which
"security" is now believed to be the prevention
of individuals from taking pictures of
"critical infrastructure", like public
buildings. Reminds me of the old days behind
the Iron Curtain! As if real spies or
terrorists wouldn't use miniature buttonhole
cameras.

Diary of a Christian terrorist Max Blementhal, The Huffington Post
Excerpt:
Visitors to Mark David Uhl's Myspace page will quickly learn that Uhl is a student at Jerry Falwell's Liberty University, that he is a devoted Christian, that his name means "Mighty Warrior" -- and that he likes Will Smith's saccharine tear-up-the-club track, "Switch." Uhl reveals his career ambitions on his page as well: "I will join the Army as an officer after college." Already, Uhl was preparing in Liberty's ROTC program.
Uhl waited until he was offline, however, to reveal his plot to kill the family of itinerant Calvinist provocateur Fred Phelps (famous for their "Fag Troops" rallies outside soldiers' funerals). The Phelpses planned to protest Falwell's funeral, a bizarre stunt designed to highlight Falwell's somehow insufficiently draconian attitude towards homosexuals. Uhl made several bombs and allegedly told a family member he planned to use them to attack the Phelps family.

Just why is information considered so dangerous
to The State? And what value is a photograph to
a "terrorist"? Why is a camera so much more
dangerous to state security than a pair of
eyeballs?
And consider the obsession with airline
security, how the frontline of the Global War
on Terror is just assumed to be at the check-in
counter of United Airlines. In George Bush's
universe the first jet hijacking occurred on
September 11, 2001, and the hijackings of the
60's, 70's, 80's and 90's never took
place...September 11th was the first hijacking
in history and Bush was "Shocked! Shocked, I
tell you."

What we are seeing is not mass insanity, though
mass hysteria often rages. What's happening is
an acceleration of change, due in great part to
the popularization of the global internet...
Information speeds around

|
| the globe, in every
direction 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
Waves of data crash on our shores, and we
react!
Look at the results. First, the Stock Market
Bubble, which popped in 2001. Then September
11 and the War Bubble which deflated in 2005. And
the Real Estate Bubble, which started to
implode in 2006. Imagine! for a time people
went bonkers over the stock market, bidding up
the price of every bow-wow of a company, like
Pets.com. And then Americans went insane over
pre-emptive self-defense, with 90% of all
politicians in favor of smiting firstest with
the mostest, just to be safe!
And then we all
went to town on housing, with even immigrant
strawberry pickers able to purchase expensive
homes in California with borrowed money -- what
banker wouldn't want to lend half a million
simoleons to a Mexican berry picker!@#
And that was just in the U.S., but we don't have a
monopoly on crazy. Everything everywhere is
changing now! Global warming, peak oil, Chinese
capitalism, genetically modified foods,
cloning...etc. even "democratic" Western
nations, now in the business of "legal" torture,
assassination and terror (we call terrorism
"destabilization" or "regime change" when we do
it...).
What is the world coming to? And where is it
going next?
One thing is for sure, it isn't going to go
back to the way it was.
Nor will it slow down. It will only go
faster!
Most people are gradually acquiring immunity to
destructive memes and conceptual viruses. But
you'd better be careful of The Stupids. Some
people can be fooled all the time. And once
they get an idea they don't let go. So just
back away slowly to a safe distance...
And stay away from unhealthy dependencies
on rigidly hierarchical bureaucracies.
If your life depends on The State, say for
a check each month, or for "protection",
then maybe you too need to take a Time Out
and have a rethink or two.
Bureaucracies do not respond effectively
to rapid change. They are like dinosaurs:
big, dumb, hungry and amoral ... and
doomed to extinction.
We're seeing the US government dinosaur
flailing around right now. When it capitulates
to Reality, all that will be left is smoking
holes in the ground, of unpayable debts,
implacable brown-skinned blood enemies,
foreign-owned means of production and
300,000,000 surprised and bitter urban proles.
Hyperbole? Nope. Even now they can't manage
anything well. Not a levee system. Nor a
small war against a puny enemy (even with a
surprise first attack!) Not even simple things,
like vote counting. The U.S. government is
functionally disabled, and proud. The
Situation is Normal: All Fucked Up. SNAFU.
Fucked Up Beyond All Recognition: FUBAR.
There are at least two ways to respond to this
situation.
1) Remember the millions of Mexicans marching
in the streets in 2006? Why do you think
"immigration reform" is ready to pass in
Congress now? Millions of people marching in
the streets = forced change.
2) Be like the smart mouse who gets out of the
way when the elephant falls. Be speedy,
flexible and adaptable. Be smart. Acquire
useful information and use it. (Thanks to the
internet, ignorance is even less of an excuse
than it used to be!)
