One day after Gordon Brown became Prime Minister of

England, an unexploded car bomb was magically found in London, making
the headlines everywhere in the U.S.
Coincidentally, this occurred one day after issuance and rejection by Bush of subpoenas by Congress regarding illegal wiretaps and the news item that a court battle over the subpoenas could result in eventual Impeachment.
The Machiavellian play was to create a phony terror incident to retain power in spite of increasingly dangerous political events. What would be easier than using the power of MI-5 or the CIA to stage such an event?

Corral in Congress, the Democrats appear to be pursuing their own Machiavellian strategies. Defeat of the Democratic/Bush immigration "reform" bill was like finding an unexploded car bomb. Simultaneously A) the Democrats proved to their pro-immigration base and La Raza that the key goal must now be to establish Democratic control of the White House and Congress; and B) the Dems demonstrated that Bush is a Very Lame Duck.
The downside to this Democratic party sham is alienation of swing voters who might have been tempted to switch-hit in 2008. But the Dems probably don't see it that way. They are still patting themselves on the back for their previous strategy of "lie back and enjoy it" while Bush trashed the Constitution and country during the previous six years.
Voters believed they were sending Democrats to power in 2006 to end the Iraq War, but the message the Dems received was Vindication of their political posturing. Barack Obama even stated yesterday that impeachment must be reserved for grave offenses, so therefore he would not support impeachment of Bush-Cheney.
What, one wonders, would qualify as "grave"? And if not now, when?
Aside from the very real possibility that Uber-Fuehrer Cheney, AIPAC and Israel may initiate war with Iran before Bush leaves office, there is another reason for impeachment. During the final year and a half of the Bush Regime another trillion or two dollars will likely be looted from the public and the U.S. treasury as a result of the real estate, derivatives and bond debacle now fully underway...
Jim Willie guesstimates that the bailout will eventually total $1 trillion dollars. Others have suggested that the size of the bailout will approach the S&L debacle -- which "coincidentally" was wrapped up by President Bush The First with the Resolution Trust Corporation.
But there will be several numbers to add up when totaling the take from this current heist: the visible payouts authorized by Congress, the invisible payouts in the form of reduced interest rates allowing "recapitalization" of lenders, and the prize money to be won when "The System" goes into violent perturbations creating "distressed assets" that can be purchased for pennies on the dollar using money borrowed from the government at low interest rates! (Lots of ironic "quotes" in that last paragraph, har har.)
In order to create the ripest opportunities for FOB (Friends of Bush), the systemic crises must be allowed to mature to the point where the government bailout's cost can be sold to the public as a necessary expense to save the system by reducing foreclosures, bankruptcies and job losses. I.E. the shit *has* to hit the fan before it can be transmogrified into fertilizer on Fox News.
* * * Thus we now see the Bush presidency fully evolved into an epic Greek Tragedy, and the final act is beginning.
Our main character, "W", remains blissfully unaware of his fatal character flaws which *must* ultimately lead to an attention-riveting, soul-crushing tragic event. In fact, he alone is unaware of his flaws, which are painfully obvious to everyone else.
Completing the requirements of the plot line, the possibility of change and redemption are *still* available to the Protagonist In Chief -- but his blindness leads him inevitably to his tragic fate.
We are all on the edge of our seats, watching, with plenty of chips and dips on hand ...
