To secede or not to secede, that is the question.
I remain of two minds on the issue, but the non-secessionist side of
my head is in a disorganized retreat. I will vote in the upcoming
presidential election. I will do what I can to support those
candidates who seem to be sincere in their support of our beleaguered
Constitution.
On the other hand, in light of current events, I have
a hard time feeling that it will do any good.
I would love, really
love, to be wrong here. I would like to believe that the nation can
rescue itself from the clutches of a regime that shows no sense of
loyalty to anything other than a transnational corporate elite that
aspires to the status of a new worldwide hereditary nobility. I
can't count the number of times I let optimism convince me that the
impossible was possible, but I know to not trust these feelings. For
instance, when Nixon was elected I said to myself, "Well, when this
crook is exposed the people will learn an important lesson in self
governance." But that didn't happen.
The preponderance of the evidence argues for the position that the
federal government has been overthrown by a cabal that uses
protestations of patriotism to confuse people about where their
loyalties actually lie. "By their fruits ye shall know them."
By
this criteria the people who control the nation are frank traitors:
Our security is a shambles. Our economy is a horror show. Public
services, health care, education, police protection, infrastructure
maintenance, are all in an advancing state of decay.
I feel that the sentiments of the Declaration of Independence need to
be our continuing guide to political action."We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created
equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain
unalienable rights, that among these are life, liberty and the
pursuit of happiness. - That to secure these rights, governments are
instituted among men, deriving their just powers from the consent of
the governed, - That whenever any form of government becomes
destructive of these ends, it is the right of the people to alter or
to abolish it, and to institute new government, laying its foundation
on such principles and organizing its powers in such form, as to them
shall seem most likely to effect their safety and happiness."
The ruling elite that now control the federal government have used the
power of government to dispossess citizens, unjustly imprison
citizens, avoid the rule of law, conduct foreign wars for the
economic benefit of themselves and the ruination of the nation. They
have criminally used the legal system to unjustly punish their
enemies and protect their friends. They have undermined the
electoral process by multiple devious and underhanded means and
effectively disenfranchised the majority of citizens. They have
sabotaged the balance of powers set out in the Constitution by
ignoring legislative initiatives and packed the courts with judges
loyal to themselves primarily and only secondarily to the nation.
We
have a twice unelected President who shows contempt for the
Constitution he is sworn to uphold. Giant transnational corporations
have been invited into the halls of power to arrange our laws and
enforcement institutions to their own advantage and to the
disadvantage of the people.
This cabal has effected a putsch and has
used their control of the federal government to commit countless war
crimes and crimes against humanity. They have cancelled or ignored
every treaty obligation they did not find convenient and thus have
become international criminals as well as breakers of what the
Constitution calls the supreme laws of the land. They have instilled
intense fear of showing dissent and practicing the right of free
assembly by conducting violent attacks against dissident citizens and
unjustly imprisoning political opponents.
They have consistently
lied, at every opportunity, to cover up their crimes and suppressed
the ability of the press to call them to account. They have turned
over the power of government to private corporations to
illegitimately control the lives and freedoms of the people. They
have flagrantly violated the provision of separation of church and
state. They have cancelled or ignored such time honored principals
of law as habeas corpus.
They have caused our nation to become one
of the most hated powers in history by conducting heinous wars,
practicing torture and disappearances, conducting assassinations of
foreign leaders, overthrowing popular governments, conducting brutal
economic warfare and using nuclear blackmail to pursue the aims of a
small group of transnational wealthy investors and corporations.
The above list is in no way comprehensive.

Doesn't the Declaration
of Independence address these issues? Does this list not make a
case, as stated in the Declaration, for a need to abolish this
government? Don't the words "That whenever any form of government
becomes destructive of these ends, it is the right of the people to
alter or to abolish it" ring very true and applicable to our
situation?
I would be unbelievably happy to find that a
reinvigorated citizenry has used the electoral process to reclaim the
government and reestablish Constitutional rule. However, secession
by state governments seems at this time to be a more realistic
approach to securing our liberties. So, baring the unlikely event
that our system can be resuscitated, I would be happy to join any well thought-out
movement toward secession.
