Nobody wins that game

The U.S. has nuke-armed bases all over the god-damned world pointed at some of
its current allies and we're supposed to be okay with that. Russia points conventional
missiles and HOLY SHIT, THEY'RE CRAZY!
This isn't the first time America has faced hostility
concerning one of its missile 'shields' and I doubt it will be the last. A few

years back
they tried to coax my country, Canada, into buying into a missile shield but we refused. I don't know
if this will ever be the case in practice, but the U.S. furiously swore that if missiles
were ever detected coming towards North America that any Canadian military personnel would
be barred from NORAD planning and ejected from the war room, effectively preventing Canada
from taking any military action or deploying emergency
|
| vehicles before the missile hits. Even though we've been half of NORAD since its inception and paid for a good deal of that
equipment we will be unable to use it and will not be informed where the missile is going
to hit even if it's in our borders.
We're still part of NORAD and are expected to do
everything else including pay for shit. NORAD is a joint Canadian-American military
organization developed during the Cold War that oversees all of
|
North America's airspace.
We've made a lot of concessions for this shit, including killing the Avro Arrow project.
The U.S. also got into a heated argument with Russia over the construction of shield with
several thousands of missiles not two weeks after signing an agreement to scale back on
ballistic missiles. Russia apparently had this to say on the matter:| | Russia's hawkish first deputy prime minister, Sergei Ivanov, made it clear that Moscow
would be forced "to respond" if the Bush administration snubbed Vladimir Putin's offer to
work together on missile defense using a Soviet-era radar base.
"If our proposal is not accepted we will take adequate measures. An asymmetrical and
effective response will be found," he said. This response would include basing "new rocket
forces in the European part of Russia" in the enclave of Kaliningrad, he said. The Russian
missiles would be able to "parry the threats that will arise from the [U.S.] missile defense
system," he added. |
Now if I read this right, America's latest 'defensive' pile of explosives built in
somebody else's back yard is now being treated as a threat by Russia, who proposed joint
partnership in the project so that they could be sure that those missiles weren't just
being pointed at THEM. Since the proposed partnership and all the diplomacy and reasoning
behind it was ignored, Russia appears to be planning a missile shield to counter the
missile shield, and each is assuming the other's is offensive in purpose.
The irony and
delightful double-standard ought to be as plain as day. I also find it ironic that the U.S.
tried to strong-arm Canada into a partnership while Russia offered it and was spat on.
This probably isn't the full response, but it doesn't imply in here that the missiles will
actually be pointed at the base, but instead waiting on standby for missiles to be
launched from it. The idea that Russia is pointing missiles directly at U.S. bases comes in
a prediction:| | Most experts now believe that Russia will take active military countermeasures. They
include targeting the U.S.'s new defense bases in central Europe with Iskandar missiles
based in Kaliningrad. Russia will also upgrade its nuclear missile arsenal, put more
missiles on mobile launchers and move its fleet of nuclear submarines to the north pole,
experts predict. |
So what these experts are saying is that Russia will prepare to nuke North America from
all sides over something Bush has done to them BEFORE with little more than angry words
being exchanged. I'm pretty sure that 'experts' predicted a four-horsemen response then
too, which begs the question of why America just keeps DOING that kind of shit. Wow.
With
wild assumptions of overreaction and aggression no wonder the Cold War lasted so long. Are
these the same experts that said Iraq had WMDs out the wazoo and ties to an organization
that several times declared its undying hatred of Saddam Hussein? (Seriously, Osama
offered to put a Jihad on his ass. Instead Bush Sr. went for Desert Storm.) Funny how
these 'predictions' are being sold to the public as Russia's actual response.
Funny how every prediction concerning countries arming for war against the U.S. is being
sold to the public as fact. It almost makes you think the Bush Administration is preparing
the American people to TAKE OVER THE WORLD for its own safety.
I've said before that the
U.S. is the only country to ever use atomic weapons offensively, and Bush is certainly of the mindset
to use them again. What will happen if Bush instigates a war with the rest of the
world and finds himself on the losing end of it? He'll create a worldwide nuclear winter
so the 'Bad Guys' can't have it. (I can predict things too.)
God, I hope not. The world's got enough insanity in it.
Mr. President, I implore you to
just calm down, step away from the buttons, take a deep breath, and count to three. The
last thing your country needs is for you to start a game of Russian Roulette with the Russians. Nobody wins
that game. So quit loading more bullets every time you hit an empty chamber because it's
not just you that bites down on the barrel.
