I'm an ugly American. Or maybe a racist.

by Cassandra, Unknown News      July 21, 2007

A lot of people have talked about outsourcing, but how the hell does one resolve a problem with a company when one cannot get through to someone who speaks English well?

My f*cking phone company just charged me 300% of my total calls in 'surcharges' before taxes. I've been asking for 'managers' because it sounds rude to ask for someone who can speak decent English, but I'm not getting anyone who can or will help. I've worked in call centers (remember when we had them here?) and know how rude people can be so I try to be polite. A 300% increase makes that very difficult, though.

A week and a half ago a package got lost, despite me having given the company directions five times in emails [still on file] because I had to speak with someone about it. It was a warrantied computer part and they wanted my credit card as a guarantee. Despite the correct directions being in the emails, the phone guy mangled the directions and the package was listed as 'address unknown'. I called the carrier and we got it straightened out, but then the company forgot to notify me that they'd received my end of the swap a week ago. I emailed them today about it and they said to consider the case closed since UPS showed it delivered although no-one had contacted me.

This is why the companies are really outsourcing... it's not the lowered pay, it's the way they can screw us over so much easier because we can't get through.

This shouldn't bother me so much when we're looking at yet another war, but I do know people here who'd love those jobs.

As they just said at the end of my last rant, "Thank you and have a nice day".
