Times complaining about how very awful the world is and how his intentions were really good-which I'm sure is a comfort to the families whose children blew themselves the fuck up. In fact, they used the term "blow-back" to describe the fact that Al Qaeda has "bitten the hand that once fed them". Ah, but an enemy of my enemy does not always remain my friend, does it? Al Qaeda could also be translated as "the Foundation". Michel Choussudovsky can be interesting to read, but from time to time his thoughts border on conspiracy theory. I am going to ask you to stretch a little more... By exploring this question, you can explore another thread of related (albeit underreported) thought. Question: What does China have to gain by allying itself with fundamentalist Islamic jihad? What the US thinks & wants simply matters less now. The war in the Middle East will become, I think, less about "foreign hegemony" and more about regional conflict between Shia and Sunni hegemonic interests. If it was the intent of the US to create instability in the Middle East, I'd say they were more successful than they intended to be. In fact, I assert that it is obvious now that they have lost control. The prospect of a weakened (perhaps irrelevant?) US presence in the Middle East and the subsequent weakening of its Israeli ally will likely embolden the House of Saud, Iran, Syria et al to strike out with their own agendas. This situation will unfold quickly over the remainder of the summer with the potential to draw Sunnis and Shias into conflict within and outside of the Middle East. This clash of wills has the potential to drag other powerful countries into this fray. The creation of this situation has been my chief concern all along as it creates opportunities for desperate actions to be committed by desperate powers.

Truly a nightmare
One of the recurring dreams I started having about 7 years ago was that Leon and I were taking a drive to see all this damage in our car and every where we went we saw bridges and infrastructure completely in ruins or partially were falling down, here were large amounts of beach literally swept away. Virtual ghost towns not another soul in these dreams. It was truly a nightmare. They're all slapping each other on the back congratulating themselves, but in reality they didn't save more then 4% of the people whose cars plummeted into the river. They are not prepared. They stood there and lied saying if they knew or got any warning that the bridge was not safe they would have closed the bridge. That's a lie. Go to whatreallyhappened.com and you will read the reports on the bridge, they knew, and we're all in the same boat... I wrote that cameras would catch it falling and I was right. This bridge was shown to be structurally deficient as so are hundreds of bridges all over the U.S. , but they continue to use money for the killing machine and this goddamn homeland insecurity. This bridge was only forty years old. What about the older ones?

It's not the lies I have a problem with, it's that I know they're lies. The rest of world doesn't care about the moral high ground. They'll do whatever it takes to get ahead. In the interests of our country, our government occasionally has to do nasty things that most of us would balk at if we knew about them. And that's fine, IF we don't know about them. When the government is totally bloody incompetent at 1) actually achieving something with these methods, and 2) shielding them from the scrutiny, it fucks things up. That's really my problem. They can lie about certain things critical to national security, but I don't want them to do it in such a transparent way, and with such little care for discretion, that I hear about it the next day from, of all places, the BBC.
When the cops are the crooks
OK, and thanks for the reply. In February 2000, our interstate trucking operations were moved from a warehouse near LAX to a warehouse near the Miramar Naval base in San Diego. I hauled air cargo on a route to Las Vegas out of this facility every Sunday night. It rained very hard the first two Sundays there. On the third Sunday as it was clear, the San Diego police pulled me over as I exited the warehouse. They asked whether I had ever been arrested, although I may have been more offended by the first question About three months later while sleeping in my truck prior to the evening's work, just outside our warehouse and before the other drivers and warehouse workers would arrive, I heard a commotion. I arose and looked out my window to see two vehicles and several people, stealing equipment from the warehouse adjacent to ours. One of the guys yelled out, "We've hit the jackpot!" He was tall and wearing a basketball shirt with the #80 on it. I got their license plate numbers. One vehicle was a U-Haul van, very convenient for hauling away the loot. Being curious, I drove over to the nearby U-Haul facility at that industrial park about an hour later with the license plate and descriptions. I was told that this was the manager's adult son and one of their vehicles. So ... the local U-Haul outfit manager's son and pals were ritually plundering the industrial park. I called the San Diego Police and clearly stated that I had all the eyewitness details they would need to pursue these genuine criminals. They were not interested, and refused to come out. During the evening, our own manager repeatedly called the police, until they came out about six hours later. They refused to take a report and left. I wrote a letter recently to Las Vegas Mayor Oscar Goodman, similar to the letter I composed to Mayor Sanders in San Diego. While I cannot be certain of Goodman's reaction, he did not respond, which indicates that he, too, hides behind police crime. I mentioned the Helium website for which I have written. The Database, part 1
Sometimes you just have to try to make sense of things using your own reason and logic. This is my stab at understanding Al-Qaeda. There are many articles suggesting that the CIA was involved in starting up a group of non-Afghan Muslim fighters to fight alongside the Muslim Afghanis, and probably the CIA listed them in a database as the former British Foreign Secretary, Robin Cook, has indicated. Thus, the meaning of Al-Qaeda (the base) could mean the database (DB) of this group set up and then placed in Afghanistan during the Afghan War (1979-1989) to fight against the Russians as a part of the US effort to end communism. In other words, the US did some "outsourcing" and secretly "hired" some "mercenaries" to fight a "proxy war" for the US (my own choice of terms). It seems that Pakistan's CIA, the ISI, was also involved and that some amount of the financing/support came from the Saudis, the UK, and China. Pakistan also received massive amounts of US military aid. The number of Muslim men who became US mercenaries according to Robin Cook was "thousands." Michel Choussudovsky says there were 35,000 Muslims from 40 Islamic countries. They were recruited, trained, and armed. They fought. About a million Muslim Afghans were killed in this war, according to Wikipedia. Then, from May 1988 - Feb. 1989 the Soviets withdrew from Afghanistan and by Dec. 1991 the Soviet Union broke up. The DB guys who survived and/or maybe some new ones then went to fight in Yugoslavia, which was breaking up, and in Chechnya, which wanted independence. You could say that the US was still intent on ending communism as were the mercenaries themselves. I assume they hated the atheism of communism and the assaults on Muslims. There are accounts of the DB guys in Bosnia and Kosovo fighting alongside the Muslims, Bosniaks in Bosnia and Albanians in Kosovo, and in Chechnya alongside the Muslim Chechens all supported by the US The war in Bosnia lasted from Mar. 1992 - Nov. 1995, the first war in Chechnya from 1994-1996 and the second from Oct. 1999 - Feb. 2000 (it's now a federal subject of Russia). The Kosovo War took place from 1995 - 1999. The disintegration of Yugoslavia lasted all through the 90's up to the middle of 2006 when the last part of it also became an independent country. With the end of communism, you have to wonder what happened to those mercenaries. No doubt, some had died. Maybe some returned to their home countries. In the US, those involved with covert activities must have been pretty pleased with themselves. They'd routed communism and had access to the riches. Now they could move on to new endeavors. It seems their successes went to their heads. The neo-conservatives now had some ideas for world domination that they wrote about as members of the Project for a New Century (PNAC), an organization that began in 1997. The same people now in government today signed its "Statement of Principles" and they produced the 90 page plan called "Rebuilding America's Defenses: Strategies, Forces, and Resources for a New Century" in Sept. 2000 (http://cryptome.org/rad.htm). This is the document that mentions the usefulness of "a new Pearl Harbor" event (Sect. V). Part of what they wanted was the Gulf states under control with US bases set up. In other words, they wanted the weakening and control of the countries neighboring Israel. Of course, massive increases in defense spending would be required and a lot of propaganda that created hate and fear of Muslims. In fact, with the US hostages taken in Iran (1979 - 1981) and constant anti-Palestinian propaganda, along with the bashing of particular leaders of Islamic countries, there was already a lot of anti-Muslim propaganda. Then, came Iraq's attack on Kuwait on Aug. 2, 1990 due to a border dispute, an attack Iraq may have been tricked into. This led to the US Operation Dessert Storm (during George Bush Sr.'s Presidency) beginning on Jan. 17 1991 mainly so that Saudi Arabia could be protected (although the US may have lied about the degree of threat). The whole thing was heavily televised. Then, in 1993 Samuel P. Huntington published an article "The Clash of Civilizations?" and in 1996 his book "The Clash of Civilizations and the Remaking of World Order." The upshot of these new ideas was a massive increase in anti-Muslim propaganda. As for Osama bin Laden (OBL), throughout the '80s he was involved in the Soviet war in Afghanistan living mostly in Pakistan. With Iraq's attack on Kuwait, he became concerned about his place of birth, Saudi Arabia. However, his ideas and those of the Saudi monarchy about how to defend Saudi Arabia were said to have differed, so he moved to Sudan in 1991. His Saudi citizenship was revoked in 1994. Then, in 1996 the Sudanese under pressure from the US asked him to leave. He moved to Afghanistan. In 1998 two different indictments against him were made by two different US grand juries. Part of the charge of the first one was that he was the head of a terrorist organization called Al-Qaeda, this seems to be the first time the word his used. He denied those charges and denied being involved in So did the US government just make up the name Al-Qaeda? I assume that the mercenaries had other names for themselves throughout the 20 years of fighting proxy wars. The name "database" surely doesn't have enough symbolism to it unless you are a group of computer freaks. Did OBL himself actually use the name? I found no clear answer to this question. Given all of the much more symbolic names used before 1998 by Muslim groups and the group in the 80's OBL is said to have been connected with related to the recruitment of the non-Afghan Muslim fighters, I'd have to opt for the name being made up.

Yolo County DA seeks new West Sacramento anti-gang injunction
If it is so easy to get an injunction against a group of dangerous young people (I don't doubt that they are dangerous) why can't we get an "injunction" against the gang in Washington who are demonstrably much, much more dangerous? Sorry, another rhetorical question, the answer to which is that the federal courts are a part of the Washington gang. If the congress fails to impeach anyone from this administration then, effectively, they need to be seen as part of, or at least in support of, the gang of criminals who have stolen our country and used its institutions to terrorize the world. In that case it seems logical that the people need to take matters into their own hands. The most obvious way to do this? General strike! Although a general strike today, unlike the successful Bay Area General Strike (see A Terrible Anger, about the 1934 strike in San Francisco), would more likely take the shape of a buyers strike.

In this case, let me just say that Mayor sanders showed himself to be a weasel, hiding behind the police and sending me a form e-mail response. I noticed at that time, in reading San Diego's Tribune newspaper online, that the mayor actually complimented the police and dismissed any allegations to the contrary. I am not able to express briefly here the contempt which I have for mayors such as Sanders, and for the criminal police, who in my case refused to investigate actual crime, but engaged in blatant civil rights violations. What scum.

But see, I've [almost] always tried to follow the rules. If you get in an accident, you call the cops, then you shoot the shit while you wait for the cops, then you exchange info, shake hands, and walk off to call insurance people. But neither of us wanted to call the cops. He didn't want to pay the huge increase in his premiums, and I was afraid of getting cited for not updating my driver's license. I'm 17 days late. Sorry, that sounds like something a girl would say in a panicky voice to her boyfriend, but that's really how many days late I am. I've been waiting for a day when I can bear to have my picture taken, knowing it will turn out looking like a mug shot. But I did feel the need to follow some rules, so I called my insurance company from the parking lot, and after the lady said it definitely sounded like it wasn't my fault, which was what the man in the truck said. Insurance Lady and I went through a helluva lot more rigmarole and then she said they'd let me know if my premiums would go up. Because, you know, I had the right of way and someone bumped into me. So I talked to some people I trust and I thought about it and told my insurance company to close the case. I'd take care of it myself. I didn't think to check until later because I was so shaky, but the door does open, although it might need a little work to make it waterproof. But lately, Authority Figures don't seem like nice people who will help make sure my door gets paid for. Even if the guy runs out on the bill, I'd rather have to have a squished door than deal with police or the car insurance people. Just hope that nice guy really was a nice guy. I do love reading Mr. Chuckles, but this reminded me of what the ideal future supposedly was after WWII. This was before my time, but wasn't it wearing clothing you didn't have to wash and eating food you didn't have to cook? Be careful what you wish for. Oh, and I think it's my year to buy summer socks too [one year winter, one year summer]. Using my Middle East filter right off I see that the New York Times article related to Saudi Arabia’s “role” in Iraq is over-emphasizing religion. Upon closer inspection it seems the message is that Saudi Arabia is behind some of the supposed sectarian violence that exists in Iraq, which the US attempts to incite and then bemoan as they use it as the excuse for staying in Iraq. I tried to write about sectarian violence before in my July 9, 2007 letter called “If you want to wreck Iraq,” so I won’t repeat myself. However, this article is mostly about Saudi Arabia and what it might be doing related to Iraq. A better link to the article is below. Saudis’ role in Iraq frustrates U.S. officials First off, the article is filled with innuendo, if not outright smears, mostly from unnamed sources. Some of the statements are contradictory Then, there’s supposed to be a document, probably forged, about Iraq’s Prime Minister. Basically, given that document both the puppet Prime Minister of Iraq and the King of Saudi Arabia get smeared/get pressure put on them. Perhaps the Prime Minister is an agent of Iran, and America’s Saudi ally isn’t supporting America’s puppet Prime Minister. Why would anyone be supporting a US puppet Prime Minister/government? Further on, it’s said that the Saudis are providing financial support to the Sunnis in Iraq. Is this statement false, partially true, or completely true? It’s likely that the Iraqi’s resistance is organized. Perhaps there are regional structures that exist and could be funded. It will be some time before we find out about that subject! There’s no reason for the Saudis to fund just the Sunnis. Then, there are more smears against Iraq’s OTHER neighbors who have “destabilizing policies.” Clearly, the US isn’t happy with the Iraqi Prime Minister and King Abdullah. What have they REALLY done? Well, the Prime Minister HASN’T seen that a large percentage of Iraq’s nationalized oil becomes privatized and under the control of other countries like the US, and King Abdullah has been critical of the “illegal foreign occupation” and hasn’t “embraced” Israel as was hoped. All in all, in this article all propaganda bases are covered and the problems in Iraq are caused by Iraq’s pesky neighbors and NOT the Americans. WOW. Finally, perhaps a little plain English is needed about the Sunnis and Shias in the Muslim world. For one thing they ALL go on the pilgrimage to Mecca in Saudi Arabia. An important point of the pilgrimage is to celebrate the ONENESS of Muslims. Tensions between Muslim countries are more likely to occur based on ethnic differences such as Turks vs. Arabs, Arabs vs. Persians, etc. Even these are overcome when any attack on the Muslim world and it’s shrines and mosques occur. More importantly, as with relations between countries world-wide, the politics as well as economic interests of the various countries of the Middle East could cause frictions.

I was reading an article from Google news how our congress has voted to send a letter to Japan urging them to apologize to the Koreans or the Chinese --one or the other or both?- over WW11 using their people for sex slaves. I also read a little while back that they have also spent a lot of time re-naming post offices. What a bunch of useless fucks.

Dear Mr. Charmichael, Your Bloomberg article of July 30, Paulson rejects criticism, says China talks yielding results, lacks historical context that would provide a fuller appreciation of the most recent news. And I believe you are giving Paulson a bit of a free ride... Specifically, both Paul O'Neill and Hank Snow, Hand Paulson's predecessors, used the "talk loudly, carry a nerf stick" approach with China. The difference is that Paulson is from Wall Street and supposedly an expert on China dealings thanks to his tenure at Goldman Sachs. But the reality under Paulson is that trade deficits have continued to grow mightily, and in spite of the yuan's peg to the dollar, the U.S. Treasury refuses to label China a "currency manipulator". The difference is that O'Neill and Snow were like sheep guarding the henhouse, and while Paulson's credentials implied that he would have independence, and not be a political mouthpiece But you already know this.
