Viewing the world and life as a vast shade of gray

I think one thing that needs to taken into account is that the vast majority of people look at life and the world in totally simplistic terms. Everything is either black or white -- right or wrong -- us or them.

Simply because they do not have the intelligence to see things any other way. Viewing the world and life as a vast shade of gray requires thought and work.

Another thing is that in America "WAR" per se is an abstract concept. Except for the Civil War there has never been any bloodshed on American soil. The people here do not know what it is like to have

In America "WAR" per se is an abstract concept. Except for the Civil War there has never been any bloodshed on American soil.

The people here do not know what it is like to have guns tanks and bombs going off... soldiers shooting anything that moves... next door neighbors blown to bits... their children, relatives and friends tortured or killed... their houses and cities blown to smithereens...
guns and tanks and bombs going off... guns tanks and bombs going off... soldiers shooting anything that moves... next door neighbors blown to bits... their children, relatives and friends tortured or killed... their houses and cities blown to smithereens...

Now I am NOT saying that this should or needs to happen. What I am saying is because it has NOT happened nobody in this country has any idea of what "WAR" is like. Most of the vets from WWII are dead or very, very old and few of the vets of Korea and Vietnam are still around as well.

I have been watching the "WAR" series on PBS and they had on a lady who was a POW in the Philippines under Japanese occupation. When she and her family returned to the States after being freed, people would ask what it was like. When she or her parents would start to talk about the experience, they found that people really did want to know or hear about it. It was just too uncomfortable for them to here. This was also true of returning soldiers.

People in this country especially live in a "Disney Land" world and are for the most part completely out of touch. And prefer to remain so.

However to quote a literary work. "You can fence yourself in but you cannot forever fence the wide world out." Sooner or later we will find out what "WAR" is all about and the "Dragons" will not longer be comfortably far off and there for legendary.

Unknown News is more fun and more informative with your participation, so please don't be shy. Consider yourself invited to speak your mind.

Because we respect peoples' privacy, we do not keep records of friends' and contributors' contact information. This means we can't forward private communications between readers and writers, but we always welcome dialogue for publication.

When we publish incoming emails, we usually edit out the sender's last name, email address, or anything else that would tend to uniquely identify the author (if we slip up, please let us know). But if your email is unambiguously intended only to annoy, insult, or threaten us, we'll publish all the details, and leave it on-line forever.

We're especially interested in hearing and considering different perspectives. All we ask is that you conduct yourself sanely and civilly. For the most productive dialogue, it helps if you'll cite a specific article or concept we've gotten wrong.

You can contact Helen & Harry at <newsuneed at yahoo.com>. If that address ever fails, our back-up email address is <unknownnews at inbox.com>.

But please, don't email us unless you're really and truly, honestly, actually trying to send the publishers of News a communication you're not sending to anyone or everyone else.

Please don't send attachments or other cr*p we don't want.

If you're trying to reach us but getting no reply, it's probably because you've sent us cr*p we don't want, so we're filtering your emails into the trash, unopened and unread.

If you'd like to have your email address unblocked, simply send a sincere apology (from an un-blocked email address).
