Uncomfortably numb

I might be a day behind or so (occupational hazard of the night shift) but I read in the
paper that The Other Butcher of Baghdad gave some stiff and harshly worded warnings to
Turkey about invading Iraq while pushing further for a strike on Iran's nuclear
facilities. These warnings included the allegation that Turkey was about to start WWIII.
That don't make no... I'm just... But... Huh? WHAT THE FUCK IS GOING ON AROUND HERE?!
I read a little further to find that Turkey's invasion of Iraq consisted
|
|
|
of Turkish troops
launching an offensive strike against Kurdish militants who had apparently ambushed
several patrols and had been sneaking into Turkey and killing people. The exact same
allegations the U.S. and their Coalition of the (sort of) Willing have been making against
Syria and other countries. The short and dumbed down version: Turkey said it was hunting
for Kurdish terrorists.
TERRORISTS!! (Insert ominous thunder sounds here.)

|
Now I might be wrong about this but wasn't that kind of the point of Bush's War on Terror
(War of Terror on Freedom)? Even in his fucked up version where dead bodies of armed
Not-Americans constitutes victory and progress? Also, the Bush administration's PR
department had often touted the suffering of the Kurds under the Ba'athist regime as one of
their lame-ass post-mortem justifications for bombing the place to hell and back.
I
dropped my official 'Middle Eastern Feud' scorecard a while ago so I'm unaware of what
might be motivating the Turkish/Kurdish conflict. Some say Turkey is trying to wipe out
the Kurds wholesale and using the insurgency as an excuse, others say Turkey is worried
about some kind of Kurdish Communist Party guerillas.
COMMUNISTS!! (Insert ominous thunder sounds here.)
|
|
But all that aside, Bush is preaching a diplomatic resolution to the conflict between
Turkish troops and the Kurdish Worker's Party. (PKK) A group Washington long ago labeled
as terrorists.
TERRORISTS!! (Insert ominous thunder sounds here.)

This all coincides with the push for sanctions and threats of military action against Iran,
calling the country a threat to world peace and stability. Diplomacy is not an option in
Bush's mind unless Iran unconditionally surrenders to his authority. Even then, it's
anybody's guess as to whether or not he'll glass Tehran on a whim.
I'm at a loss here. So
violence is the solution to all of America's problems, but not when it's someone else's
idea? Okay, I'm officially confused. This reminds me of the coup in Thailand, but with all
the principles of it reversed. My mind is just blown. I think my problem started with me
trying to make SENSE of anything that goes on in the world today.
While this long-winded rant might convince you otherwise, I am now almost completely beyond
caring. I'm so goddamned tired of this I can barely muster the energy or indignation to
even roll my eyes. People are DEAD and I can barely roll my eyes at the madness. How bad
is it that anyone can be so conditioned, so desensitized, so utterly numb to all of this?
It might be the regularity, it might be the hype, it might be the slow crush of my soul,
it might simply be the hour and the lack of sleep as I type but I am just so tired of
being angry. There's no outrage left in me.
I'm going to bed now. Good night world, let
the bleating of the sheeple carry me to sleep. I no longer even hear the barking of the
dogs of war that shepherd them.
