 Dr. Herb Ruhs & grandson

Imagine that someone comes to your house seeking shelter. You have
reason to trust the person, because of distant family connections or
proffered references, but things start going badly.
They start
running up bills on your credit card, wreck the car, burn down the
garage while making methamphetamine, and you can't do anything about
it because this person has moved his friends into the house and is keeping
your children hostage and threatens to harm them if anyone complains
to the police. Investigators that come to the door asking why the
children have stopped coming to school get a plausible story about
your moving with your kids to another state for a better job.

Thinking things can't get worse, you acquiesce to living the life of
a slave in hopes of saving your children. But things do get worse. The
children are turned out as prostitutes and you are subjected to
routine torture,
rape and humiliation. There it stands.
What can
you do against a gang of hoodlums that have taken over your life and
enslaved you? Will something unexpected happen to free you and your
children from this horrible fate? It is the only hope you have, so
in the darkness of your closet cell you listen to the screams of your
children, and hope.
The opening of a screenplay for one of Hollywood's regular terror
films? Nope. It is an allegory for our situation here in the US of A. Before you reject the intensity of the allegory out of hand,
consider that much of the world's population lives in some form of
such hideous captivity that is every bit as frightening, or
worse. Think about the fates of refugees in the Congo, in Darfur.
Think about the fates of the Karin people of Burma. The favelas of
South America ruled by rapacious drug lords. The fate of the people
of Iraq, Afghanistan, Gaza all evoke this kind of horror on an ethnic
or national scale.
Now think about what all these places have in common with us, here in
the US. Turns out that we can all trace our suffering to the same
set of home invasion monsters, who in turn trace their lineage and success
back to the power of rogue intelligence services, financial
criminals, drug kingpins, war profiteers and other assorted gangsters
that have locked in control of our country.
It turns out that we in
the US are not all that exceptional, except for the distance we have
fallen and the rapidity of that fall. Through fear, intimidation,
fraud and credulous belief in wrap around media lying we have lost
control of our fate. And worse than as suggested in the allegory,
where

When, as shortly will
be demonstrated, America lapses into a condition of abject suffering,
similar to what our government has helped impose on so many people of
the world, no tears will be shed by the rest of the world in the
telling of the tale.
We will be seen as suffering our just desserts --
first living high on crime and then reduced to the gutter by our
excesses.
We will be lucky if we can scrape together the price of
the drugs we feel we will need, to continue to self-treat our despair.

in the US have become identified, in the eyes of the world, as
complicit in the crimes of our home invaders.
However, just because our near future is ironically similar to the
rest of the downtrodden of the earth, is no reason to turn to drugs
and mutual abuse. In the fairly recent past we have been deprived,
as a people, of any motivation other than material comfort and/or
fanatical belief. This coming shock to our system is just the thing
to wake us up to the responsibilities of liberty.
We actually do
have the power to stand up, regenerate a back bone, and kick the
thugs out the door. We did it with King George the Third two hundred
and thirty two years ago, and we can do it again with our current gang
of criminals.
Perhaps this time we won't make the mistake of letting
the charlatans, speculators, pathological liars, and mass murderers
convince us to hand over the reigns of the country in order to pursue
riches on our behalf by means of violent conquest, genocidal terror
and ethnic cleansing driven by a lust for empire. We may yet again
be seen as the heroes of the world -- by first liberating ourselves, and
then, as a result of cleaning out the main nest of depraved criminals
that have taken up residence here, allowing the rest of the world to
deal with their own domestic home invasion criminals and liberate
themselves as well.
