Trillions of reasons to be optimistic

by Hazel Burke, Unknown News       March 22, 2008

The so-called "Credit Crisis" is now a metaphysical crisis. Americans, and other people all over the planet are awakening and asking questions about
At the end of all this, Americans will be hungry and organized, which is a scary combination!

I think this is inevitable, because we will have oodles of Experience.

We will have seen the worst, most depraved atrocities of the people in government and on Wall Street, and we will be highly motivated to reclaim what is ours -- not just our freedom, wealth, privacy and self-respect, but our country!

Maybe even the stars.
Reality.

There is a sense that the things which we were told and believed do not make sense anymore. Alan Greenspan, the famous, ex-bubble blower, once admitted that he and the Federal Reserve were unable to actually define what is "money" (and hence, their reports about the M3 money supply were not grounded in reality). President Clinton famously posed the question, "What is the definition of the word 'is'?" Now everyone is asking what is what.

This is because in a very actualized, realized way, Capitalism itself has failed in America, along with Government. In theory the capital markets are supposed to allocate capital so that it is put to use to create goods and services. And the markets are supposed to -- theoretically -- process information, and via the Invisible Hand, set prices and efficiently direct the forces of production and investment.

Instead we have "too big to be allowed to fail" corporations who specialize in keeping any profits for themselves and handing back to government the major losses. Thus "capitalism", as practiced in the U.S., does the exact opposite of what it's supposed to do: it rewards the stupid, corrupt and inefficient by (mis)allocating capital from society at large to the biggest losers. And, in the process, it gets the prices wrong because it does not operate in a "free market".

Meanwhile, our government has failed, because our politicians are functioning as sock-puppets who, 1) are manipulated by wealthy political donors; 2) are completely compromised by their past financial, sexual and moral escapades; and 3) must operate within the constraints imposed by the Military-Industrial-Entertainment complex. For example, the purpose of FBI/CIA/NSA/DIA/etc. domestic spying is not to protect America from terrorists or communists, but rather, to provide compromising data about politicians and other VIPs to those who desire operational control over the country (but secretly, without accountability or responsibility).

Thus, we can theorize credibly that the reason the Democratic Party took no actions whatsoever to address the many crimes, misdeeds failures of the Bush Administration is that most of them are compromised. Someone somewhere has the dirty dirt on nearly every politician in America, and when The Powers That Be say "Jump!", the politicians say, "How high, sir? And may I have another?" In fact, we should probably require every politician to undergo monthly polygraph tests to determine whether or not they are free from extortion schemes and not participating in any bribery schemes.

This is no "conspiracy theory". It is fact-based. Think about how bad things have gotten when the Governor of New York can't even get laid without a posse of G-Men tailing him and wiretapping his phones. The guy is a mega-millionaire, a Big Time millionaire. In Nevada, Spitzer could have legally paid for sex with 10,000 whores, so what is the big deal here (and why didn't he do that)?

What makes the problem of compromised, "owned" politicians so much worse now is that because the Religious Right has a hammer-lock on the Republican Party, nearly every politician has to claim to be religious, "saved" and to "love Jesus". Which means that everyone is in the closet about everything, and even the slightest "sin" means political death to a politician. The NSA, CIA, FBI and the DIA probably know who every politician has ever slept with.

I am guessing that the reason there are so many intelligence agencies has nothing to do with the number or variety of enemies. Having an intelligence agency in your bureaucracy is like owning an information bank. It is pure gold. Like if the president-elect decides to cut back on R&D for Star Wars, the DIA pulls out a dossier full of 8" by 10" color glossies and begs him or her to "reconsider".

Still though, I believe that there is reason to have Hope in America in spite of our reality-based crisis. Thanks to the internet, and thanks to the monumental errors made by The Powers That Be during the past ten years, millions of people are learning about things which are actually True and useful to know. We are adapting, growing and evolving in response to the informationally-rich nutrient broth of the internet.

For example, consider how the stock market crash of 2001 taught many millions of individuals harsh lessons, while the perpetrators of the white collar crimes got away clean. What happened then, during the next Bubble? Well, we see that the institutions who got away clean last time didn't learn because they were not punished, and so went to work and really outdid themselves with a planetary Ponzi Scheme! And did individuals get burned this time in stocks? Well, I guess we'll find out eventually, but I haven't read much on the internet about that happening. Instead it is these mega-corporations themselves who screwed themselves and each other in the most thorough way that could be imagined! (I think we have new nominees for the 2008 Darwin Awards.)

We have read about millions of people who made unwise "investments" in real estate, especially the "sub-prime" individuals, but millions more actually did get rich. And the fact is that mortgages are generally non-recourse loans; defaulting may screw up your credit rating, but the lender can't come after the rest of your assets. Not unless you took out a second mortgage. So millions of individuals can just "jingle mail" their house keys to BofA and walk away, scot-free! Their wagers didn't succeed, but in 11 years they will have clean credit files again, and in the meantime they can

rent. So really, it is the BofA's who are getting screwed this time, which is why they are the ones demanding Socialism Mortgages; they claim it is for the good of the country, and necessary.

The socialized losses -- AKA "bail-outs" -- will be at least $1 trillion, and probably much more when you total the direct payments and the resulting inflation (which steals from the poor, savers, widows and orphans.) Add in the $2 trillion Iraq fuck-ups and voila, everyone is fully aware of The Truth, because The Truth has gotten too big to hide! In 2017 when the Social Security Trust fund is required to start paying out some of the trillions of dollars they've taken out of our paychecks over the decades, individuals are not going to be receptive to politicians saying that Social Security is broke. Same for Medicare. If we can have socialized mortgages, socialized banking and socialized stock markets, then why NOT socialized medicine?

By the time this whole credit crisis and metaphysical awakening is complete, I think America will possess many tens of millions of reality-based citizens who are astute and well-informed. The peer pressure to act stupid and ignorant, like our President Bush, will vanish. People will believe that it is a good thing for a President to be able to speak English. We'll expect our President to know at least one language! And people will come to appreciate both the cunning of Good Old Boys and the geekiness of Smart-Ass Young City Slickers, and I think both groups will find that they have things in common.

There is no going back, from here the only way forward is up and out! Other Planet Earthers had better keep a sharp eye out too, because they haven't seen us Americans living up to our potential for many decades. When we finally get our shit together it is going to be awesome!
