 Dr. Herb Ruhs & grandson

I am hearing increasing whispers about the need for a revolution. I am reminded of people saying in the sixties "Come the revolution..." to introduce some hopeful idea.
A lot of people I knew then seemed to believe that society makes steady progress toward revolution. Of course, that is not how radical change occurs. What happens in reality is that the oppressive system responds to the urge on the part of the population for radical change with ever greater degrees of repression.
| "Revolution now" folks tend to get discouraged in the wake of these repressive moves by abandoning their visionary visions. Some, especially the more intelligent and better educated, even go other to the other side and take part in the machinery of exploitation and oppression.
Personally, as I continually repeat in an admittedly boring litany, I see the potential for radical change growing closer with every defeat of the forces of reform. Revolution does not evolve, it explodes when the pressure gets too great. Jefferson understood this perfectly in his time.| | "God forbid we should ever be twenty years without such a rebellion. The people cannot be all, and always, well informed. The part which is wrong will be discontented, in proportion to the importance of the facts they misconceive. If they remain quiet under such misconceptions, it is lethargy, the forerunner of death to the public liberty. |

Modern technology has armed the forces of oppression to degrees that surpass understanding.
But be reassured. With every increased measure of oppression, the pressure for change grows exponentially in reaction.
Have faith that the rear guard actions of the system will eventually cause it to crumble in a sudden and spectacular way.

| | ... And what country can preserve its liberties, if it's rulers are not warned from time to time, that this people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms." Thomas Jefferson |
Even Jefferson would likely be discouraged in this time with its extremely slow build-up to revolution and radical change.
The future will be the property of the people, as Jefferson understood.
