Sensory overload
Needless to say I made him sever all lines between our house and his immediately. Now, after three months of no internet, I have internet service that relies on cell towers and not telephone lines etc. Mr. Need-to-Know can't do a thing about it. That said, I am completely overwhelmed. I could be on the 'net for 24 hours a day searching the net for real news, causes to support, support groups to join, and friends to chat with. I finally understand why people cannot focus on any one cause to support or battle to fight. It is the sheer volume of information. It is constant, it is relentless, it gives constant food for thought (and worry). My friends have even taken to scheduling "news breaks" so as not to get too stressed out. One friend does not watch the TV at all. DVDs only. I felt nervous reading what I had missed (which was nothing and everything) over the past few months. I am watching the world go into a circular motion down the drain and it seems as though people are attempting to run a 10-K marathon on a treadmill in terms of getting large measures passed, budgets balanced, crooks caught, and keeping people protected. It is strange for me that this is the first time that I ever noticed how people can get so lost and confused. It is not strange to see how easily media can be used to frighten, circumvent plans, confuse, and downright mislead those that fight the good fight. I have nothing to offer, but pick the battle you can most devote your time to and keep at it until you're screaming from the rooftops. The crash is here. There's so much noise that the bombs that are going off are being masked by the screaming sirens. You're prepared, though, so do the best you can. Fight the good fight. Hopefully I'll be back with you soon.
Because we respect peoples' privacy, we do not keep records of friends' and contributors' contact information. This means we can't forward private communications between readers and writers, but we always welcome dialogue for publication. When we publish incoming emails, we usually edit out the sender's last name, email address, or anything else that would tend to uniquely identify the author (if we slip up, please let us know). But if your email is unambiguously intended only to annoy, insult, or threaten us, we'll publish all the details, and leave it on-line forever. We're especially interested in hearing and considering different perspectives. All we ask is that you conduct yourself sanely and civilly. For the most productive dialogue, it helps if you'll cite a specific article or concept we've gotten wrong. You can contact Helen & Harry at <newsuneed at yahoo.com>. If that address ever fails, our back-up email address is <unknownnews at inbox.com>. But please, don't email us unless you're really and truly, honestly, actually trying to send the publishers of News a communication you're not sending to anyone or everyone else. Please don't send attachments or other cr*p we don't want. If you're trying to reach us but getting no reply, it's probably because you've sent us cr*p we don't want, so we're filtering your emails into the trash, unopened and unread. If you'd like to have your email address unblocked, simply send a sincere apology (from an un-blocked email address).
