America has been completely punked

I don't like admitting when I have been taken advantage of by
confidence criminals any more than anyone else. No-one does. But
when we fail to recognize that we are being taken advantage of and
continue to believe that the people who are fleecing us are, as they
always claim, are our best friends and protectors, the damage just
mounts until we are totally broke, our lives ruined and our dreams
cancelled.
Well, we have been listening to confidence criminals
posing as politicians for many decades now. We have insisted that
our |
politicians tell us only what we want to hear, that we are the
best, the world's only hope, the beneficiaries of the world's best
economic system, health care system and educational system, and so
forth. We have been blind to obvious hypocrisy in the face of facile promises and
professed values. We have allowed these liars to speak to our weaknesses, our need to feel superior, to blame our problems
on other countries and our own poor and immigrant populations.
Consequently we have been blinded, our country looted and our
countries reputation in the world trashed beyond recognition. We
have absorbed the wall-to-wall lying of our mass media about the
political situation without exercising any critical judgement at
all. We, as a nation, have acted like small children and our candy
has been stolen.
We have a choice. We can continue acting as children, believing that
our so-called protectors care about us, or we can wake up and face
the fact that we have been had.

One of the very painful realities that we will need to confront as we wake up to the consequences of our stupidity, is that we will need to abandon the stories that we have become accustomed to hearing about ourselves. Our enemies are not from abroad, not from somewhere far away, but live in our own communities.
With some exceptions that need to be carefully proven, our enemies are those of us who have become rich while the rest of us have been becoming progressively poorer.

stupidity, is that we will need to abandon the stories that we have become accustomed to hearing about
ourselves. Our enemies are not from abroad, not from somewhere far
away, but live in our own communities. With some exceptions that
need to be carefully proven, our enemies are those of us who have
become rich while the rest of us have been becoming progressively
poorer. We have insisted on electing people to high office who have
enormous conflicts of interest that prevent them from acting with
integrity when doing the peoples business.
In coming days, the false financial manipulation that has created a
false sense of economic adequacy will have run its course, and our
economy will collapse. Wal-Mart will no longer be the source of
cheap goods. Food and fuel prices will escalate rapidly, leaving a
majority of us without hope of meeting what we think of as our basic
needs.
The temptation at that point, fostered by the perpetrators of
our lament, will be to turn our rage against each other. That will
be the ultimate test of our humanity. If we fail to point our
fingers at the true authors of our suffering and begin the process of
reconstituting our democracy, in a form that can resist the efforts
of criminals, we will be totally lost and will deserve our
fate.
As it stands we can claim to be victims, stupid perhaps, but
relatively innocent. If we take the path laid out for us by our
criminal infrastructure, the path of senseless anger and violence
against each other, then we will have foreclosed any possibility of a
decent future for ourselves or our children.
A good place to start, I think, is to push to remove money from
politics. It is insane to accept that our fates can be managed by
people who owe their power to the support of wealthy criminals.
There is a lot of inertia in the political system.
Change at the
top, at the federal level, will result from change at the local
level. Now is the time to stop accepting local elected officials who
are put forward by the business community.
We don't need local
leaders who look good, we need local leaders who look like us. This
means that we must reject candidates for office who are sponsored by
the major political parties, by wealthy interest groups such as law
enforcement unions, by business associations such as the Chamber of
Commerce and religious groups. Anyone not dependent on public funds
and grassroots support does not deserve to fill public office.
Public financing, and a greatly enhanced sense of suspicion of those
seeking electoral office, can begin the process of unwinding the
legal and policy structures that have been set up over the past
century and a half to enable the looting of the country. Eventually
a reconstituted Congress will be able to kill the idea of "corporate
person-hood" and kill the criminal beast of corporate rule and free
us, or at least our children, from corporate/criminal rule.
