Treat Hillary Clinton respectfully
Re No free pass
People who are racist don't know that they are racist -- they think they are right.
People who are sexist don't know that they are sexist -- they think they are right.
Women are 51% of the population and 35% of the Senate, and only 29 Have EVER been
governor. Women do 70% of the work and enjoy less than 1% of this nations' wealth. THESE
ARE FACTS.
My point, the one that you missed, is that critics are not afraid to be sexist.
If a radio personality were leading the "Shine My Shoes, Boy" brigade against Obama, there
would be a sh*tstorm and a public outcry for his resignation. But there has been very
little response to the "Iron My Shirt" cr*p. I want the right person to be elected, always. And I would

How would you feel if someone treated your mother the way Hillary has been trampled?

Would you have your own daughters' heart broken that way? |

encourage discussion of ideas --
I <heart> the 1st Amendment. Say what
you want, vote as you will; but don't fool yourself. Ours is NOT a representative
government.
The "free pass" I want is for this country to decline Hillary's bid for
President, RESPECTFULLY. If you don't like the music, turn the station. If there is a
product on the shelf that you don't like, don't buy it. If there is a candidate that you
don't believe in, don't vote for
them.
But people are taking pleasure in the Hillary bashing. How would you feel if
someone treated your mother the way Hillary has been trampled? There is a young woman, who
loves her mother, who is watching you and others spit on her. Would you have your own
daughters' heart broken that way? I have yet to see a politician who wasn't a liar by
nature. Don't use that as an excuse. You say "...she's a manipulative liar who thinks
she's entitled..." like it is a new ideas in politics. I put to you that ANY woman who
was making a run at the White House would be treated the same and people would just as
badly as they are right now.

I hope we get a chance, soon, to see whether you're right, whether any woman gets the Hillary Clinton treatment.
It occurs to me that many people reading this might have no idea what was the "Iron my shirt" thing you're talking about. A couple of months ago, a young 'man' interrupted a Hillary Clinton press conference by heckling that she should iron his shirt. I only know about it because I listen to left-leaning talk radio, where the clip was played several times (but not as many times as you might expect) and sadly commented upon. But I don't remember ever hearing that clip on the mainstream news, nor reading about that incident in a real newspaper.
And that non- or minimal mainstream coverage is yet another example of the sexism present in mainstream media as they've covered (smothered) her campaign. You can rest assured, I predict, that when some lowbrow heckler shouts "Shine my shoes!" at Barack Obama, that'll make much bigger national news than Hillary's heckler, 'cuz racism is bad in ways sexism, for many people, just isn't. And that ain't fair and ain't right.
Clinton ought to be treated respectfully by mainstream media, by the boys' club that pretends at impartial journalism, but every time I hear another "reporter" comment on what Clinton is wearing, or how "grating" her laugh or her voice is, or whether men are ready to vote for a woman, I want to throw a brick at the telly. So long as Chris Matthews remains employed it's pretty obvious that she's been treated neither fairly nor respectfully. When you write about a daughter's response to this unfairness, I'm with you on all that, at least when you're critiquing mainstream media.
But of course, on a personal level, other than a grudging respect for some so-and-so's political accomplishments, there aren't many politicians I have serious respect for. And whatever respect I had for Hillary Clinton has evaporated in the past couple of months.
But I shouldn’t recognize my own level of disdain in mainstream reporters and pundits, yet I do ... and it's not rare. |
