The greatest screwjob ever

It happens in publicly traded corporations all the time, Enron being
the most notorious example -- management goes rogue, cooks the books,
and makes off with a fortune before anyone gets wise leading to
bankruptcy, investor losses and job losses.
That is exactly what
happened to USA Inc. Our treasury has been looted, taken to offshore
banks with secret accounts, and we have been left with a mind-numbing
debt that our great, great grandchildren will still be paying off.

That's the unnerving, crazymaking thing. In spite of the fact that
we know the Bush/Cheney gang is looting the country to the last dime
on the last credit card and rapidly going after every dollar of our
money, which should be being spent on pressing needs like education,
health and caring for
our growing crowd of wounded vets, we can't get
anything done about it!
Unlike your usual amoral corrupt corporate
chieftains, these crooks have the FBI, the CIA, and all
the rest of the alphabet of Federal enforcement organizations, taking
orders from them to look the other way while they rob us and countless
generations to come of every last thing of value in the country,
including our self respect.
I mean, we expect to hear about this sort of thing happening in small
backward countries, but this is happening right here at the seat of
the empire itself, which has come to resemble a kind of surrealistic
wild west, anything goes, lawless pit. And, to add outrageous insult
to grievous injury, our elected representatives in Congress, the
Tribunes of the People, are helping them do it and apparently getting
a cut of the loot. Trillions of dollars go missing, totally
unaccounted for (the Pentagon whines about their bookkeeping
problems) and no-one in authority seems concerned!

Corruption is
such a bland word for something like this. Maybe hyper-megastupendous astronomically insane surrealistic corruption would
serve.
Well I guess that's what happens when people are foolish enough to
elect fantastically rich folks (wall to wall millionaires in the
halls of Congress, after all) to represent their interests. Massive
suffering may be the only cure for massive stupidity. Maybe we
should be grateful that they are at least trying to teach us about
what chumps we are. How else would citizens of the greatest country
on earth learn other than by experiencing the greatest screwjob
ever? At least maybe, big maybe, we can hope to look forward to
being poorer but wiser.
I think I'll practice a little meditative deep breathing now. You
might think of learning to do this too. It will likely come in handy,
to prevent the high blood pressure that is otherwise highly likely to
develop as we become enveloped in waves of 24/7 scandal reports once
there is finally nothing left to steal.
