I thought we would all die when something like this happened by Kathy Fisher
| June 20, 2008 |
I felt awake and asleep at the same time. This did not feel like a dream
but it had an urgency so bad to it that all I could think about while it
was happening was that I wanted to wake up.
It came in waves, almost like a quick slideshow of moving events.
First I heard Leon (husband) as I am in bed sleeping, he comes in the room
and says, ''Now they done it, it's all out nuclear war in the middle-east!
Come and see this it's on the news.''
But I can't wake up. I seemed to try
three times to get out of bed but I fall back, and then I see a fast
glimpse of very sad people looking at their dried up useless crops all
withered away (hardly grown at all) on cracked soil. The looks on their

It's cold at first, they

black snow.
It begins to melt right away as it touches their

One person yells out ''It's snowing in August, what's going on?''

This piece of my puzzled dream is washed away with a quick fade to black,
then the next scene I see is about fifty people walking around somewhere
in an American suburb in shorts on a cloudy day, when all of a sudden
black flakes start to fall from the sky. It's cold at first, they
think it's ash, but as it touches their skin they can feel and see it's
black snow. It's cold and begins to melt right away as it touches their
skin.
One person yells out ''It's snowing in August, what's going on?''
This glimpse/scene also fads to black quickly, and now I'm in what looks
to be an enormous fuselage of a military plane. I see all along the walls
those yellow packets that are placed in cluster bombs (there's
hundreds of them). My eyes are now focussed on the outside of the plane
and it's fully loaded with bombs. What kind? I don't know!
Again this fades to black, and I hear Americans talking. One person is saying
how surprised he is that after so many nukes have fallen we're still alive... I
thought we would all die when something like this happened.'' They are
sitting in a house with no roof and few walls in candlelight.
Again in the dream I tell myself, ''Got to wake up and see Leon before he
goes to work.''
I thought he came back to help me get out of bed. I felt so weak, almost
paralyzed, but I was still dreaming. Very frustrating!
Somehow I managed to take a deep breath and yell out ''ENOUGH!''
That's when I woke up turned around and sat up to see what time it
was. Good, Leon had not left for work yet, so I went out into the
kitchen. He looked at me and said, ''You look like you've seen a ghost... Oh
no, what did you dream?'' and then I told him.
He told me I was awake and talking to him at 6 when the alarm went off, and
then he finally got up at 10 after and I drifted back asleep. It was
only 7 o'clock so the dream or whatever it was took place some time in
that next forty minutes.
Sorry, I tried all day to forget it, but the best thing I can do is write it
down. That's the only way I know how to deal with these things. As you know, Helen, I always document these things by writing about them
and sending a copy to you ...

Because we respect peoples' privacy, we do not keep records of friends' and contributors' contact information. This means we can't forward private communications between readers and writers, but we always welcome dialogue for publication.
When we publish incoming emails, we usually edit out the sender's last name, email address, or anything else that would tend to uniquely identify the author (if we slip up, please let us know). But if your email is unambiguously intended only to annoy, insult, or threaten us, we'll publish all the details, and leave it on-line forever.
We're especially interested in hearing and considering different perspectives. All we ask is that you conduct yourself sanely and civilly. For the most productive dialogue, it helps if you'll cite a specific article or concept we've gotten wrong.

But please, don't email us unless you're really and truly, honestly, actually trying to send the publishers of News a communication you're not sending to anyone or everyone else.
Please don't send attachments or other cr*p we don't want.
If you're trying to reach us but getting no reply, it's probably because you've sent us cr*p we don't want, so we're filtering your emails into the trash, unopened and unread.
