Is McCain a dead man running?

by Herb Ruhs, MD, with a potpourri of his further comments and perspectives

Could it be that the reason McCain is refusing to release his medical records is that he in fact carries a diagnosis of metastatic melanoma and may have as little as a few months to live?

Deep and or recurrent melanoma implies a high risk for metastatic disease, which in turn implies a very short life expectancy.

Could it be that the reason McCain is refusing to release his medical records is that he in fact carries a diagnosis of metastatic melanoma and may have as little as a few months to live? Fascinating thought.

If true it means that the man is running for the brass ring knowing that shortly after winning he will be dead. Can ambition be that insane? I think it can.

Also, if true, the real, though stealth, presidential candidate is Palin. It would also be a field day for conspiracy theories.

We are having a leadership crisis, not an economic crisis.

It is an open question whether or not a fully emotionally, intellectually and morally mature human is capable of being trusted with large amounts of other peoples money. It is certainly true that the sort of ambitious, grasping, game loving person who tends to purse a career in business and finance can categorically not be trusted to place the interests of the people who's money he manages above his and his friends interests. This is the Achilles' heel of capitalism. Trust is just another commodity to be accumulated and then traded for a profit when the price is right. All business eventually degrades into a confidence game.

While our attention is increasingly focused on wars, hot, cold, class, drug, and all the rest, and economic concerns, the real news is that the big foot of climate destruction is descending on us and is threatening to squash us to oblivion.

Scientists, bless their hearts, have a conditioned response of conservatism in stating their conclusions. Conservative projections of the rate of carbon dioxide accumulation in the atmosphere, and the consequence of rising average temperatures and climate destabilization, have allowed people to discount the problem relative to more immediate and passionately involving concerns. The conservatism of scientists has left them far behind the ball as evidence accumulates that the rise of carbon dioxide is actually accelerating.

In a sane world (one not driven insane by this abomination of "civilization" and its concept of "progress") we would all be dropping everything and focusing entirely about stopping this trend and finding ways to remove carbon dioxide (and other green house gasses) from the atmosphere in order to save ourselves from extinction. The world's population is the metaphorical equivalent of a psychotic person convinced that they can leap from a tall building and just fly away.

The entire range of legitimate opinion (with the possible exception of the anarchist/primitivist/anti-civilization group) agrees that law and just order is a non-negotiable element in any social plan. People argue about WHICH laws and WHAT order, but agree that some set is required. The exception to this rule is the opinion that supports and enables criminal lawlessness and criminally imposed order. This is the true polarity of political opinion. Cheaters vs. non-cheaters.

With trust all problems are potentially surmountable. Without trust every solution is another problem.

Comment:   (10/4/2008)   And the inept Sarah Palin is literally a 72 year old heartbeat away from taking over as president should McCain pass... Now that's a Scary thought!   Erik K.      PERMANENT LINK

Comment:   (10/4/2008)   I was just talking about this with a friend who's a bio-medical research PhD. She's a bit freaked because recurrent melanoma is a bad thing (it's not the relatively benign 'cut and toss' version of skin cancer.) The public doesn't seem to understand that, and she's worried that Palin will get a pass because the Veep is a nothing position most of the time.   ChurchHatesTucker      PERMANENT LINK
