Personal epiphany of the day The last eight years severely tested my own Faith in the Almighty. It is hard to know which Test plagued me most! Fundamentalist Christian preachers' involvement in politics was a ball-buster. Naturally. And seeing nearly every national-level politician suddenly become a self-avowed Born Again, publicly praying and invoking God's Name at every opportunity was another. Worst maybe, were the masses of voters who continued to approve of GWB's job performance. OMG! ... I wonder how their balls feel now, after Bush finally outed himself by saying that "the Bible is probably not literally true." After all these years. The torturing, war-mongering, deceiving and looting never shook the Thumpers' faith in GWB. Will this do the job? A mind is a terrible thing to waste. Politicians Ironically, or is it actually tragically(?), the US' imminent demise as a Superpower can be accurately blamed on politicians. What GWB & Co. didn't mess up the Democrats are sure to finish FUBARing. One reason is that as the individual, corporate and governmental bankruptcies increase, double, and then re-double, the politicians will respond with larger and larger, and then even larger bail-outs. But they'll be bailing out the corporations and the wealthy, rewarding incompetence every step of the way. Therefore, the least competent people in America will guide our future, thanks to taxpayer money. (In my opinion, corporations should never be bailed out, but individuals should be bailed out to the minimum degree necessary to maintain individual life, health and mobility to work -- and not comfortably.) The main reason the Demos will FUBAR America in 2009 and 2010 is that the world is changing with exponentially increasing rapidity and the Demos are targeting the conservative, slow moving middle with their policies. Their Big Government needs Big Projects, but in the chaotic 21st Century small, nimble, and intelligent is the way to go. Their policies will fail badly, and the money will be wasted, leaving America with even more debts to be repaid in the future with interest. For example, bailing out the car companies is now a "progressive" cause celebre. But just a few months ago global warming was the big thing! Doh. How much sense does it make to funnel many tens of billions of dollars into companies that specialize in building mobile global warming factories? Doing nothing would be preferably to wasting monetary ammo in this way. Not that Democratic politicians are elected on the basis of brains or financial acumen. As near as I can tell they are more like warts -- they just appear and don't go away without medical treatment. They're not even to blame, really. We're the ones who should be blamed for allowing these conniving clowns and puffed up plunderers to amok for so long acting like our Overlords. We really are to blame if we rely on the Democratic politicians and do not take immediate, individual, nimble, intelligent steps to prepare for the inevitable disasters ahead: These include devaluation of the dollar, national reneging of debts and benefit obligations, and withdrawal of American troops from abroad because the US government has run out of hard currency to pay for them. I do not give a damn and I do not have the slightest interest in what Obama, Pelosi, Reid and their lackeys say or do in the coming months. I know they will FUBAR America -- just as GWB did -- and it is up to me to take care of me and my loved ones. Here is an example of small, nimble and intelligent... Geothermal As the AP story below about Raser shows, modular geothermal power plants have tremendous potential for quick-hit alternative energy. These modular systems are completely constructed at the factory and just need to be hooked up at the geothermal site. In addition, new technology allows low temperature geothermal sites to be used. (There is also "solar thermal" to be considered.) Read here: New geothermal technology could tap 120,000MW of energy
(Note: Merrill Lynch is quoted in the article as strongly supporting Raser. Therefore it is probably not wise to "invest" (i.e. gamble) in Raser.) Utah startup hits geothermal jackpot
