Maybe, just maybe, Obama's silence on Gaza is a good sign

by JR Mooneyham, Unknown News       January 1, 2009

Although Barack Obama forcibly lowered my own expectations of him long before the election regarding completely different matters, still, I
Obama's silence on Gaza confirms low Arab expectations

Excerpt:  U.S. President-elect Barack Obama, with his silence on Israel's attacks in Gaza, has confirmed Arab expectations that foreign policy changes will come small and slow when he moves into the White House next month.
disagree that his silence on Israel's latest Nazi-like actions should 'confirm' anything at all.

No: if I were in his place (but being me instead of him) I'd have some pretty draconian plans in mind for reining in Israel over the long term. But the best way to do that would require first having the American public overwhelmingly behind me, due to me having already fixed some huge domestic problems like the financial crisis and possible depression, by doing things like enacting a robust universal healthcare program and others, despite all the fierce opposition the Republican-controlled media and other corporations are sure to mount against it.

Too, if everyone thinks about it for a moment, they'll realize NOT to tend to the threat of depression might well lead to circumstances where all of us worldwide would end up living like the poor folks of Gaza are today. Gulp! Like it or not, the children of the entire world must be attended to before the children of Palestine, for the next little while. Mostly because of the almost unrestrained malevolence of US mainstream media.

Note that since Obama's most powerful opposition is empowered by rich and evil men like Rupert Murdoch, there's a fairly simple way to speed up the salvation of the Palestinians and the moderation of Israel. Namely, some oil-rich Arabs could discretely usurp sufficient media control in the US to put guys like Murdoch in their proper place, once and for all. Note that this Arab financial manipulation would have to be subtle, and done with a finesse only available with the advice of the foremost experts on the American mindset and how to change it: the top advertising and marketing gurus in America. And the Arabs funding it would have to limit their goals to realistic ones, and not go overboard. Hint! Hint!

But of course there must have been wealthy Arabs capable and aware of this possibility for decades already by now. So I can only conclude they see it more beneficial to them personally to continue to allow Israel's madness against the Palestinians to go on, rather than end it. (Alas! Those rich Arabs must be some heartless brutes, if that's true!)

So Obama won't have such help on the corporate media side.

As President-elect I'd also have some big plans to demilitarize America -- including huge cuts in the defense and intelligence budgets, to help pay for much needed fixes in everything else. Universal healthcare and big defense cuts are enormously ambitious goals in a country as presently dysfunctional and on the verge of total collapse as America. So -- bad as I'd hate to -- I'd have to delay taking Israel to the woodshed in my first year -- maybe my first two.

However, I would be determined to do so, once I got America's more pressing affairs back in order.

BUT...I'd definitely keep mum on Israel for the moment. Especially since I won't possess any real power for weeks yet. Heck: saying almost anything at all about Israel at this time that didn't suit certain powerful crazies in my own country would accomplish nothing more than squandering my future effectiveness before I even get any! Which would be plain crazy in its own right.

And, just to be clear here: I believe Israel's own long-term survival and prosperity depend upon them making as just a peace as possible with the Palestinians, every bit as much as the future survival and prosperity of the Palestinians does upon getting Israel to act like a civilized people again.

Unfortunately for Israel, the influence of Vice President Dick Cheney and a male Sarah Palin as US President from 1999 to 2009 caused Israel to pursue such horrendously self-destructive policies that I honestly don't know if Israel's future can now be saved. Truly terrifying technological weaponry will eventually trickle down to become available so widely that there'll be no way a tiny nation like Israel which works so hard to make so many hate them so much, will possibly be able to adequately defend itself -- even with a superpower to back them up. And America as superpower is something which currently looks to be on shaky ground, thanks to Bush and the Republicans.

One danger to Israel is the inevitable spread of ever more advanced technology into the hands of their enemies. Like nuclear weapons. I estimate as few as four well placed nukes could essentially wipe the nation off the face of the Earth. And nukes are only the tip of the iceberg here. The number of ways Israel could be destroyed forever will only multiply as the years roll by-- and become ever more tempting for someone to try. And they've made such hardened enemies of the Palestinians (and many other of their neighbors) that an awful lot of them would be willing to die themselves too to bring it about.

The stupidity Israel has displayed for years now beggars belief. For they MUST have experts telling them all these things are true. Over and over again.

Note too that Israel has its own 200 or so nukes. So they could also very easily destroy themselves with a single accident. With their own bombs.

After watching their abject stupidity for so long now, I even fear Israel using a bomb on itself in an effort to make the world believe the Arabs did it, if they feel too cornered and in need of more $billions in welfare. I suspect one or more US Presidents have been alerted to this possibility, too.
