Can't turn my back

by Chris D., Unknown News       Jan. 17, 2009

I couldn't turn my back for 24 bloody hours without a major escalation in Gaza, could I?

It's like some cosmic force with a bad temper and a worse sense of humor heard me and said, "You don't wanna care anymore eh? Well I'll make you pay attention, you smug prick! No willful ignorance for you, ya hypocrite!"

Everyone in the same boat as the Gazans, who have lived in fear of such an assault and are quite possibly next on the hit parade, are eerily silent on the media front.

More disturbing than the lack of emotion or action on the part of the Western world is the sudden silence and stillness of the Middle East, the people most directly affected.

So here I am, 24 hours later and ripping my damned hair out over the stuff I was trying to make myself ignorant of. Just typical. There are several points though I hadn't considered before coming back here to think.

Why is Iran so silent on the issue of Israel's attacks, after having a highly publicized shouting match with Israel just in the last few months with unholy threats being passed around like biscuits at a tea party? Are the surrounding nations solidifying their defenses in response? Are they launching official petitions with the UN? I hate to be the one to say this out loud as it's always an invitation for catastrophe, but I don't like this. Even with all the insanity that's going on when you stop and think about it in terms of the entire conflicted region and all of it's interlinked power-players...

It's too quiet...

Where are the rallying cries? The furious condemnations? The offers of temporary alliance against a common enemy? There's just nothing.

Doesn't something about that seem odd? Frightening even?

Also, after reading this brief article, Study shows that "decision by committee" works worst when the committee consists of eight people, I have to wonder if there's some correlation between the state of the world economy and the number of people who are most directly responsible for guiding it. Namely, the Group of Eight or G8. (Previously G7, before Russia officially joined in 1998)...
