Criminalizing black life
THIS explains a lot. I don't believe slavery has ended, either. Consider the 2 million Americans in the American gulags Prisoners are working for years, paid almost nothing, and why? Because of the drug wars Once a person goes into "The System" it is very hard to get out of it. Many don't. There are few job opportunities, and especially few good job opportunities for ex-prisoners. And starting from broke is hard even without a police record. I cannot imagine how difficult it would be to be a poor black man in Alabama with no money and a police record. And I can't imagine why people stay in the Deep South

"The Year of the Jackpot", by RAH
Is this the jackpot year? Probably not unless Bush (or Israel) attacks Iran. But everything which can go wrong is going wrong at the same time Here is a tremendously interesting article by Jim Willie: USFed blinks: Propaganda & bluffs The gist is that the Federal Reserve is not defending the U.S. dollar The problem is that if oil stays high, or goes even higher, then a tsunami of debts will be reneged on by consumers The truth is, IMO, that the Fed isn't responsible for the value of the dollar. Their mandate is price stability and maximum employment commensurate with a non-accelerating rate of inflation. The Treasury Regardless, the U.S. is in deep doo-doo. Goldman Sachs put a "conviction sell list" recommendation on both GM and Citigroup today. Gold rose $32 in one session! People who followed the late Harry Browne's advice survived the market crash today in good fashion. FYI, things don't usually happen at once, or even in a week, and it is possible that a global policy response will be generated to help the US and the US dollar. The reason why that is hard to imagine, though, is that the Bush Regime is universally hated and more than half of the countries around the world are anxious to see the U.S. economy collapse And... these symbols are looking very "constructive". Fortune favors the bold, but of course, discretion is the better part of valor and cowardice is the better part of discretion, so use good judgement GLD IAU SLV GDX
Truth in advertising
Why don't we get rid of the torch, and just have the Statue of Liberty stand in the harbor and flip off the world?
Religion is bad for kids
I don't trust any God who wants my money. The bible says to give to the poor, not the church. I don't trust any God who allows children to be raped. Mohammed was a pedophile. The Muslim religion is based on the teachings of murderer and pedophile. Buddhism is supposed to be all about enlightenment... in practice it is about liberation by self-denial. Weird. They are not allowed to have sex. There are claims that the Monks have a system almost like the Romans, where the younger boys are expected to "service" the men. um...yuck! Publicly they insist that they don't have sex at all. <dubious frown> The Rabbis that abuse children rarely make the headlines for some reason...? How do we know the 5 Supreme Courts judges that reversed the death penalty in Louisiana for child rape aren't pedophiles? Can we use FISA to take a look in their laptops? Is "religion" another codeword or opposite word that I don't understand? Dictionary.com has a few definitions of which most include "common beliefs and practices." So the term fits if they are all winking and smiling, and placing the children up on the altar, not to be sacrificed to whatever God but to whatever man has power over them. No wonder a lot of the religious people are against abortion. Children have to be born to be abused or to be programmed to be abusers. Puts a different spin on the tale of the Lion that is made to lay down with the Lamb. Is that code for predator and prey? I think me and my God will continue to talk over coffee and I will leave church to the oblivious. Now I know some will say "Not my church..." or my religion or my sect or whatever. But I personally can't belong to any group that thinks they speak for God. I can't belong to any group that can't use a little common sense and backbone to oust the Godless ones from their midst. I can't belong to any group that is against consenting adults marrying but for non-consenting underage, "spiritual" wives. You want to influence legislation against consenting adults, but let the Latter Day Saints do whatever they want behind locked gates. Why aren't the "good" people picketing the gates of these compounds instead of harassing owners of adult bookstores who card people to make sure they are adults? I always thought that I would regret not having children, but now I think it is a blessing. I will kill anyone who hurt a child of mine. There is no room in my world for these people. My last living grandparent died in 1988. I think with her passing, so went common sense and unwavering character. She spoke out without fear. She was a mother, a teacher, a writer, a gardener, and in my memory, a hero. She had clear vision and direct speech. Can we not just start telling it like it is? Maybe in tribute to George Carlin, we can shatter the hall of mirrors and be blunt. Rebel against false labels like the "moral" voice. We're not having a housing crisis or an energy crisis, we're having corruption repercussions. Global warming? N-stage life on earth. Our soft language is what allows so many to bury their heads in the sand. I had just planned to write a line or two, and it got away from me again. I agree. That's why we have to start calling it a man's issue. As long as it is labeled a "woman's issue" it will be brushed aside. We think in language. My thinking is that if we change the language, we can change the thinking.

A society of the destitute
Still in the ring
So, in a nutshell, by November we'll all have the solid understanding that we have all lost. Every other country will fear us or be disgusted by us. Now what? I ask my friends what "battles" they've chosen and these are the results: Some want to take on the incredible task of unseating every member of office that doesn't support them. Some want to take on anyone that doesn't support, advocate, and protect children's rights. Some want to do the same for elders. Some want to work only to achieve proper medical care for vets. Some want to eradicate dirty cops. Some want to eradicate dirty city officials. Some want to end the abuse of the homeless and fight for their proper care. Some want to stop all outgoing jobs and monies to other countries by removing from office those that live to cater. Some want to completely dismantle the Media and FCC as it currently stands and restructure it. Some have chosen battling insurance agencies, HMO's, PPO's, hospital legislation, and support hospital care in general. Of course there are those that want all of our troops home right now. There are those that will fight for clean air, water, and safe food. Let's not forget those that are about to wage chaos on those that regulate our gas and utility prices. Then there are those that may be taking on the most dangerous wars of all-those that fight for the separation of church and state and those that fight racism. It will be chaos my friends. There will be death, fear, hopelessness, and dismay at what our government is truly capable of. But the time has arrived. Perhaps your particular battle is not on this list. You may say why bother, we'll be nuked anyway. You just may be right. We possibly should be saying goodbye and I love you to our loved ones until the bombs drop. Then once the launches are started, have a beer and settle in to watch that which will quickly erase us from this earth. BUT we may yet win. Boxers know it ain't over 'til it's over. Until then-get your gloves on-round one is about to be called. It's time to head to the ring. Is your city going to be bottled water-free? It's scary because: Drug-laced drinking water: a fix on tap? Ah that's where you and I differ. Adult on adult crime is one thing. Adult on child crime is quite another. For this I very much would not want my tax dollars wasted to house these people for ten to twenty or more years. I'd personally like for the warden to drive to Orchard Supply buy a rope, get ride of the offender, and use my tax dollars to keep kids safe and educated. Child crime is cyclical. Child rape often goes from generation to generation ruining families for years and years.
Fact is
Senator Bernie Sanders is a frickin' socialist, literally. And I can easily think of a dozen Senators from Kennedy to Feingold who are much, much more liberal than the utterly middle-of-the-road Barack Obama. Fact is, Republicans have trotted out "most liberal" bullsh*t like this about every Democratic candidate for President since Michael Dukakis, and fact is, liberal Democrats aren't allowed anywhere near the Presidential ticket. Obama is not a liberal by any sane definition of the word.
