Wishing death on others

by Sherri B.       Tuesday, July 8, 2008         PERMANENT LINK

Re The only plausible solution
I believe in the power of concerted thought by masses of people. I see this as the origin of our current problems as masses of people pursued immature wishes for ever more material security without concern for the consequences of this pursuit. Hence, I sincerely wish for such a limited use of nuclear weapons in the hope that it will hit the cultural reset button and allow for a better future for our kind.

I also, very unscientifically (though there has been some work on this), believe that if enough people wish hard enough that this very realistic possible outcome can be forced into reality. Tinkerbell can be saved. Therefore I continue to invite people to join me in visualizing such a limited high altitude nuclear event.
I also believe in the power of concerted thought by masses of people. Now let's just think for a moment. What percentage of the globe has internet access? Non-controlled newspaper access? News access at all? TV's or Radios that are not controlled by big media? Electricity? How does this info get to them? A letter-writing campaign? (To those that can read, of course.) Missionary workers into mountain and desert towns? What about those that are praying for death right this minute due to lack of food, shelter, water, and meds? (Think China, Myanmar, Africa, and any of the regions we've bombed.)

There are those that believe in reincarnation. There are those that just want the suffering to stop. Asking for a bomb to kill some to save others in my opinion is gruesome. I have the courage to say that world war (should it come) will probably kill me, my family, friends, and many others. I have lost control of my government and other powers that be.

To pray for the murder of others I will not do. Oddly enough I am involved in what is called "Lightworker" activities. We pray and wish for light for all-not-some-and are brave enough to walk into that burning fire should it come for us. I believe that everything has a season and all seasons must pass. Trying to stop the world for some and keep it turning for others out of fear of loss must be stressful but well, I say, when you gotta go ya gotta go — wishing death on others so you can survive a few years more or secure a bleak future for your loved ones is sad thinking (to me) but like I said, when it's time to go it's time to go. Visualize whatever you need to get you through it and God speed.

Sherri B.
I'm gloriously ignorant of everything about high-altitude nuclear explosions except what I've read on the dialogue pages, and I'm not fascinated enough to do any in-depth reading or even skimming on the science, because, well, science is over my head. But as laid out by Doc Herb, explosions in orbit will not directly harm people, or life of any kind, so it's not a daydream of murder, is it?

And it is just a daydream. It's intriguing as daydreams go, but nobody's lobbying the President of France or Israel to actually do this. I don't think it's Doc's intent to put together a worldwide ad campaign for high-altitude nuclear explosions... or maybe I'm wrong about that?

Start banging drums

by MonkeyMan       Tuesday, July 8, 2008         PERMANENT LINK

Re Disgusted
Do let me know, please, whether your complaints get any response.
We have decided that we will first try to take the high road. We plan to contact the event planners and give to them hard copies of the voter registration law. Also, we will have a copy of the laws, with the paragraph about the criminality of intimidation or interference of those assisting registration highlighted, on each and every clipboard. The idea is to either educate or remind people of the laws.

Just in case, I have the link to the ACLU that is used to ask for legal help. If the harassment continues or gets worse, we will start banging drums.

MonkeyMan
Excellent. I imagine that the whole incident was just honest ignorance on the staffer's part, and there's no better antidote for ignorance than facts presented plainly.
Helen & Harry

I would be interested to know whether or not Civics or American Government is still being taught in High School and if so, what they actually teach. Civics, Ethics, Citizenship....I guess an ignorant population is easier to con. Has the bush regime started burning books yet? All dictators eventually start banning books, movies and programming that promotes free thinking.

< Heavy Sigh! >

MonkeyMan
I don't know anything about present-day civics in school except what I've heard about it on talk radio, but what I've heard is that civics has been eliminated. That it's something kids' parents and grandparents studied in school, but it's not taught any more.

Three-wheelers are gone

Health Care in the US: the leading cause of bankruptcy and the third leading cause of death.

Is the corporate life worth living?

***           ***           ***
I am saddened to learn that future imports of my much loved three wheel truck are being blocked by our ever criminal federal executive branch of government. Bajaj 3-Wheeler is now off the US market

Whatever excuses the government is selling for their decision have to be a cover for preventing the importation of high mileage, low cost transportation. I was hoping to convince people to buy one themselves. Eighty miles to the gallon with a top speed of forty miles per hour and a one ton cargo capacity would have been an easy sell.

But then our government seems to be in collusion with
the criminals who want to squeeze every last penny from the exorbitant gas prices. It would really eat into their "profits" (actually extortion payments) for people to learn they could get around at eighty miles per gallon. Good thing I got mine at nearly the last possible moment.

The American Revolution began in the sixteenth century and will be finished in the twenty-first.

Herb Ruhs, MD
Sure does look like a fun mode of transport...
Helen & Harry
It is fun. It is also nostalgic for me because it is a near exact replica of the three wheel Vespa that I drove when I first went to Viet Nam. The big draw, however, is the 80 miles per gallon and one ton payload. Now that gas is spiraling up my neighbors are being envious. Just a couple of months ago they were contemptuous. Real men drive pick-ups, you know.

Herb Ruhs, MD
Looks like a pick-up to me, so you must be a real man. Me, I take the bus, but dang me, if I had to drive I'd want something economical like that.
Helen & Harry

Missoula is pretty rural and has very little in the way of public transport out here on the fringe fifteen miles from the city center where we live. My actual plan is to provide transport for agricultural goods. That is the major use for the millions of these things that are used elsewhere in the world.

Intervertion would be counterproductive

by Chris M.       Tuesday, July 8, 2008         PERMANENT LINK

Fed study says home price drop 'necessary'

Excerpt: Large-scale government intervention in the US housing crisis would be counterproductive and prevent a "necessary" correction in home prices, according to a Federal Reserve study released Monday.

The study by economist William Emmons of the St. Louis Fed concluded that "government interventions directly in housing or mortgage markets are not necessarily the best policy responses."

"By allowing markets to sort themselves out quickly, a foundation for sustainable homeownership and responsible mortgage lending can be re-established," the regional branch of the central bank said.

I have to say that this is one of the very few times that I do agree. Even so I still feel a need to qualify this statement. Absolutely the price of real estate had become completely insane. I have seen how these houses have been built and believe me it ain't good by a long shot. Crappy construction, crappy materials...you name it.

However I do not agree in a totally "hands off" approach to the situation. There definitely needs to be a good deal of government over site to the mortgage business and banking in general. Especially with regards to how much is charged and how it is applied and who can or cannot qualify for one. With help for those on the bottom as well as new home owners.

Re A Republic, Madam, if you can keep it

Benjamin Franklin was the coolest. It can't be repeated enough. "Those who would give up liberty for security deserve neither". 9/11 was a challenge to our belief in liberty. And we failed.
