Vote against the incumbent by Obese Ballerina Wednesday, July 9, 2008 PERMANENT LINK Congressional approval falls to single digits for first time ever Well OK, but will Americans be angry (and awake) enough to vote against their own Congresscritter in November? With very few exceptions, every Republican in Congress deserves to be removed from office, and virtually every Democrat deserves to be replaced with a real Democrat. While we're on the subject, of course, virtually every member of Congress Democrat and Republican deserves arrest and trial for treason, but that'll only happen in my dreams. Obese Ballerina The CBS Evening Lies by Hans Annees Wednesday, July 9, 2008 PERMANENT LINK Here's more phony hysteria about how Obama has changed his position on Iraq, when, of course, anyone capable of reading Obama's words understands that his position hasn't changed at all. I was ready to dismiss this as just more nuttery before noticing that this is actually running on the CBS News website. Is Obama following Bush on Iraq? I wasn't aware that CBS News carried lies from arch-right sources like NATIONAL REVIEW as part of its, uh, news. Is that Katie Couric quality or what? Hans Annees Hiroshima cured me by Sherri B. Wednesday, July 9, 2008 PERMANENT LINK Re Wishing death on others Sherri B. replies Doc Herb is a nice guy but a simple way that I think about it is what goes up must come down. Daydreams about nuclear bombs in any form for any reason just isn't my thing. I understand your point of view and I know I'm being stubborn but the idea of playing around with things over which we have no short or long term full understanding doesn't float my boat. Hiroshima cured me of any thoughts of "safe" nuclear weapons. As did Chernobyl. But no worries I won't argue with him on this matter again Sherri B. Hey, nobody's more stubborn than me when I get riled, but I'm far from riled and you're cordially invited to argue with the Doctor all you like. Nobody who matters is listening to our political opinions anyway, so reading and writing and maybe illuminating these things is my only way to remain semi-sane. Helen & Harry
Accidents will happen by The Canadian Wednesday, July 9, 2008 PERMANENT LINK So Iran is conducting livefire naval maneuvers in the Gulf at the same time as the US and its allies are conducting their own livefire naval maneuvers. I hope there are no "misunderstandings" ... The Canadian Sounds like a great way to manufacture a war. I just have to say, before the missiles fly, that I've been very impressed with the way the Iranian government has handled two years or so of non-stop harassment from the US government. Nobody can plausibly say that Iran hasn’t tried to avoid war, and nobody can plausibly say that America hasn't tried so very, very hard to make war a certainty. Helen & Harry Yes, I know. There is a great deal of conflicting reports on this topic of late. Reports indicate either conflict or peace with not much to be said in the middle. Reminds me a bit of the parlay between the US and Iraq just before the bombing began. Iraq was complying with the UN demand to report on its WMD, and the US administration of the day was giving overtures of peace, and then .... boom! There are radical factions on both sides of the nations that truly are chomping at the bit for a war; I just hope they do not get their way. War with Iran would be the end of America as we know it today and would cause horrendous destruction and loss of life in the Middle East. The Canadian As nobody says but someone really ought to, What could possibly go right? Helen & Harry
Treasonous janitor? by Kenneth L. Wednesday, July 9, 2008 PERMANENT LINK This story is worth following for a couple of reasons.. Janitor in espionage case remains in legal limbo
Kenneth L. Hard to tell from here, so what do you think? Are they railroading him? Helen & Harry Possible. The lawyer, Herb Moncier, is a relative good guy in a sea of corruption in East TN. He brought cases against the Knox County Sheriff who was later found to be in contempt of court. This Federal Judge filed a secret complaint against Moncier and railroaded him to not practice for five years in Federal Court. But he already had some clients. Now the prosecution is moving the trial date up, before Moncier's appeal gets heard. So, in that sense, it is a railroad. And if you read the complaint against Moncier by this federal Judge... its really petty... the pdf of the complaint is on this newspaper's web site. Lastly, there's "secret evidence". The guy is a janitor accused of doing something wrong. What secret evidence? What's the need for secret evidence? How will that play out in a Jury of peers who don't have secret clearances? Was the evidence gathered from illegal wiretaps? So, it will interesting to see how it plays out... Kenneth L. Sounds peculiar indeed. The info is appreciated, thanks, and please do keep us posted. Evil is still evil by Wendy V. Wednesday, July 9, 2008 PERMANENT LINK Until he started backing off issues he'd campaigned on, I thought Obama was the best choice available. I may have to rethink that, although I doubt any others I'd prefer would be electable. I hate having to choose "the lesser of two evils" evil is still evil. Don't know was feeling good about this one now have my doubts. Wendy V. I expect nothing but corruption from politicians, as all but a few have shown that they're principle-deprived and simply for sale. I'm "pragmatic" enough (sigh) that I didn't really imagine that Obama would give a flip about the Fourth Amendment and rule of law and such. It's sad to put this into words, but I'm really more disappointed that he didn't have the brains to figure out that his stand on this was going to hurt him. And it's going to hurt him a lot, by slowing the contributions and drying up the enthusiasm that his campaign had accumulated. Helen & Harry
Congressman threatens to do something by Angry Annie Wednesday, July 9, 2008 PERMANENT LINK Waxman (D-California) threatens contempt vote for Mukasey I get weary of all the "threatening", which looks a lot like posing for the cameras. There's absolutely no doubt that Mukasey is guilty of contempt of Congress and violating his oath of office, by even the most lenient definitions of such terms. So Congressman Waxman, now that the photos have been taken, please quit threatening action and actually, you know, do something. Angry Annie The word for this by Rebecca Wednesday, July 9, 2008 PERMANENT LINK Re Intervertion would be counterproductive Imagine my surprise, after the federal government intervenes to the tune of billions and billions to save banks and bankers' assets and asses, that the same thieves at the Federal Reserve who loved that bright idea are absolutely opposed to any intervention that might help ordinary homeowners. Ordinary people get to suffer the downswings of capitalism. Rich people are shielded, and only get to enjoy the upsides of capitalism. The word for this is fascism, but at least it's all-American fascism. Rebecca A place for you by Steven W. Wednesday, July 9, 2008 PERMANENT LINK when the emp or the nukes hit a few US cities , FEMA has already gne to procure many cites around the country to house traitorous scum like you, to protect you from the rage of Americans you have betrayed. It will be a glorious day when la Guillotine claims her bloody prize....dont lose you r head over this now..... We live what we believe Steven W. We've been receiving fewer and fewer hate mails over the past year or so, presumably as more and more people come to realize they've been duped by Bush & Cheney's lies. Perhaps one day you'll understand too, that "liberty and justice for all" aren't just empty words, that it's not traitorous to complain when America's Constitutional freedoms are abrogated by a madman, and that wars without reason and threats of death or imprisonment for anyone who objects were not really what the founding fathers had in mind.
