Democracy, theocracy, or just crazy?

Bush administration considers crackdown on contraception

Excerpt: The proposal circulated to media defines abortion broadly to include many types of contraception, including birth control pills and intrauterine devices. ...

Warning, adult content ahead:   I'd like to state for the record that as a male I am really quite horrified. Bush is trying to legalize shutting down public hospitals for reminding it's doctors to provide information about safe sex and condoms. Not only is he legislating morality based on his own religious beliefs — a practice regularly spat on by Americans when they talk about Muslim countries and Shariah law — but he is trying to broaden the concept of abortion to include any
act for the prevention of impregnation.

Specifically: "The Department proposes to define abortion as any of the various procedures — including the prescription and administration of any drug or the performance of any procedure or any other action — that results in the termination of the life of a human being in utero between conception and natural birth, whether before or after implantation."

Next on the list after quietly classifying condoms
If you're not horrified by now, you're either naive, moralistic to the point of delusionally assuming this is a blow only to promiscuity, or simply deliberately avoiding looking at either the big or small picture, for fear of having a deeper understanding.
and the morning after pill as abortion is criminalizing abortion. Along with it, condoms, the pill, and even masturbation. (Wasted sperm never go to term.)

Right up front you can see that this would be a gross violation of the right (and sworn duty) of doctors to provide care for their patients and of citizens to safe sex. But when you think about how this branches out, it gets even scarier. Before implantation... That leaves a VERY fucking scary window.

When you think about how broad the wording is, an act that prevents conception that can take place "before implantation" could extend quite easily to early withdrawal, (wishful thinking, in most cases) as it is an attempt to avoid knocking someone up.

If this administration is really sneaky and especially deranged (which of course they are) they can even have that provision cover where people chose to blow their load. Blowjobs, anal sex, pearl necklaces, all of which are sexual acts that can be purported to be performed in attempts to avoid pregnancy. This could effectively ban sex that is NOT for the purpose of procreation as any sexual act that does not result in pregnancy can be creatively interpreted as an attempt to avert it including intercourse with a partner that is sterile, barren, or of the same gender.

And, even more horrifically, taking that statement at face value, a particularly clever and sick individual may take away a woman's basic right to say no. Saying 'no' to sex is another act that prevents conception, it could be argued in court by rapists and whatever lawyer is slimy (or simply unlucky) enough to be saddled with a rapist as a client.

If you're not horrified by now, you're either naive, moralistic to the point of delusionally assuming this is a blow only to promiscuity, or simply deliberately avoiding looking at either the big or small picture, for fear of having a deeper understanding. If you were already horrified before you read this, then I hope this observation has pushed you past horror into glorious, productive, true moral outrage.
