McCain's wife, topless by Janice Lester Friday, August 8, 2008 PERMANENT LINK In prepared comments, McCain offers wife for bikers' topless beauty pageant
Just out of curiosity, what kind of coverage do you think Barack Obama would've gotten, if he had offered his wife for a topless (and frequently bottomless) beauty pageant? I think the talking heads on TV would rake him over the coals for two weeks and deem him utterly unPresidential... But McCain did it, not Obama, and I only heard the sound clip on left-leaning talk radio and read about it in blogs, because when McCain makes an utter ass of himself the media always, always looks the other way. Janice Lester A Polaroid moment by Mahdi Abdul Finkelstein Friday, August 8, 2008 PERMANENT LINK This article surveys facets of the economy and monetary system using graphs. It also has many words. My immediate takeaways: 1) The US is definitely in a recession now, that fact has simply not been formally declared by the government's statisticians. And the recession is going to be serious. It is really just getting started and things are already ugly! 2) The long term trade-weighted chart of the US dollar shows the severe crash since 2001 from the 118-ish level to 75-ish now. Recently a bounce has occurred, which is normal because things don't go straight down continuously. We can see that the 80 level will be "resistance" (technical analysis terminology) to further increases. When it gets to 78...79...that will be the moment to look into selling again (and buying stuff like gold, silver, oil, gun&ammo...yada yada.) Historically, currency moves continue for long periods and when they change direction, they continue in the new direction for quite a while -- soooo...hitting 80 and dropping again may require many months, even a year (partly due to other areas/countries debasing their own currencies now and going into recession.) Mahdi Abdul Finkelstein A basic element by JR Mooneyham Friday, August 8, 2008 PERMANENT LINK Our ancient instincts don't meet the decision-making needs of a modern world This is one of the basic elements of our nature that Republicans routinely use against us in their propaganda. I think Bush/Cheney are now trying to cut a deal to lock in US troops in Iraq for at least a bit longer than Obama and followers would prefer. Like until 2010-2013. JR Mooneyham (www.jrmooneyham.com/) 2good2btrue by SirJ Friday, August 8, 2008 PERMANENT LINK Re That's what Jesus would do by Chris D. Chris D. said, "polygamist kiddie diddlers and their disgusting assertion that women of all ages in their communes are literally property of their church whether they like it or not." Sex with multiple partners, sex with kids, and sex slaves. Wow! So much perversity crammed into one religion! It sounds too good to be true. SirJ Prewarning: I'm feeling cranky by Sherri B. Friday, August 8, 2008 PERMANENT LINK Re Cloning Boogers by SirJ Did Sir J bother to go to the link I provided to check the source? Does he know how unreliable WikiPedia is? Do I have to provide 20 articles on how unreliable wiki is? ARRGGHH-and good morning :) Sherri B. Genetic engineering by MonkeyMan Friday, August 8, 2008 PERMANENT LINK Re Cloning Boogers by SirJ Maybe we could clone Republicans but with morals, or Democrats only with backbone. MonkeyMan You're tinkering with my species, but it's intriguing... Of course, it's immoral to be a Republican, so if the experiment is successful all the clones will be either Democrats or maybe they'll start a new and better party. Helen & Harry
Dumber and dumber by Chris M. Friday, August 8, 2008 PERMANENT LINK Too many people, too much consumption
The average IQ of the people in this country runs from 90-100 and drops off dramatically. As our population increases, it is the less intelligent of our species that are increasing in numbers and not the most intelligent. Those with above average intelligence are having fewer children or opting out of becoming parents all together. The college educated and professionals etc. Many are choosing to remain single. Can you blame them ?? After all being a parent these days is a lot more trouble than when my parents started out, and more expensive as well. On top of that the natural selection that in the past would have "weeded out" the morons, has been intervened upon by medicine etc. In short there is not only more of "us" but on the whole we are becoming dumber and dumber. And one wonders why those who now hold office appear to be so incredibly stupid ... they are. Chris M. Mexico could've won by Marshall S. Friday, August 8, 2008 PERMANENT LINK Mexican soldiers enter Arizona, hold agent briefly
Mexico declares war on US... The US is bankrupt, all it's soldiers are overseas. Mexico shouldn't have retreated. They would have easily won. Get ready for the $1.00 stamp. We don't need "terrorists" to destroy us. We're doing quite a good job of it by ourselves, thank you. We're now the torture society. Torture in the military prisons, torture in the mental hospitals. to replace Guantanamo concentration camp The real axis of evil. If they ask for a credit card to get something "free", head for the hills. Are they not already doing that here in the US? What a pile of garbage is that prosecutor and jury. Ah, crony capitalism at it's best. Marshall S. Sting ring by JS Magruder Friday, August 8, 2008 PERMANENT LINK Re Hollow and deceptive by JR Mooneyham I believe the technical term for the hot pepper exit issue is, "sting ring". JS Magruder (whynotresist.blogsome.com) One tsunami after another by Pavel C. Friday, August 8, 2008 PERMANENT LINK Re Same old by Siskiyousis I agree. They typically wait until after the deluge to pass laws requiring umbrellas and ... uh ... levees. Unbelievable sh*t will go down and it may be that that is how the current generation of legislators is forced into early retirement -- because right now I am looking forward to one tsunami after another after another, with major economic catasrophucks swamping us for at least one year, and probably longer. I bet the entire 2010's are devoted to trying to recover the economy! Pavel C. |
