Politics of the dead by Brick Pillow Monday, August 18, 2008 PERMANENT LINK Presumptuous Republican nominee sends campaign surrogates to Georgia Thousands are dead in a real war and occupation, and candidate McCain is playing it for politics. Brick Pillow Hairpiece by Kathy Fisher Monday, August 18, 2008 PERMANENT LINK Report: Russia may arm Baltic fleet with nuclear warheads Will someone please page Mr Sean Connery. He's needed on a Russian sub immediately! And make sure he has his white hairpiece on! Kathy Fisher (klfisher@webtv.net) Protests are a waste of time by SirJ Monday, August 18, 2008 PERMANENT LINK Re Cages by SirJ I consider protest demonstrations a waste of time. In your experience, how many of the protests you participated in had any effect? SirJ I've never been to a protest that didn't have an effect. At the very least, a few people are talked to, facts and opinions are shared, and that tends to reverberate, and sometimes it's a lot of people who get that effect. At the opposite end of the spectrum, those huge pre-war protests in 2003 would've prevented the American attack on Iraq and saved a million lives ... in a democracy, or in a nation ruled by anyone who gives a damn about the people. Helen & Harry And let's not forget JERICHO was cancelled a second time. If the Iraq war bothered Americans, John McCain wouldn't be as close behind Obama in the polls as he is. Fact is, the American public doesn't give a shit about what happens to our military and how many are killed as long as it doesn't involve their sons and daughters. SirJ I tell myself Americans would care, if newscasts gave Americans any serious news, any way to know that something's wrong beyond Amy Winehouse and the top-grossing Hollywood movies. Not sure if it's true that Americans would be furious if they only knew, but that's what I tell myself. And until corporate-controlled media is utterly unplugged, America is going to continue swirling down the toilet in one giant flush from sea to shining sea. Helen & Harry Re Walmart locks night shift workers in by Paula A. When it comes to evil employee relations, my money is on Wal-Mart, not Disney. Wal-Mart has a history of locking in its night shift workers and then to save on management costs, leaves nobody in charge with a key. Wal-Mart locks night shift workers in SirJ A little less competition for First Place among screwover corporations would be nice, wouldn't it? Helen & Harry
Sputtering machinery by Wig Monday, August 18, 2008 PERMANENT LINK Re Factual or scientific by Wig I would differ somewhat with you on the FBI's problem. Their problem as I see it is they're still under the impression the Bush Propaganda machine works. Wig A gigantic protection racket by Herb Ruhs, MD Monday, August 18, 2008 PERMANENT LINK We are well into World War Three, my friends, and unless we figure out how to pull the plug on gangster capitalism the ultimate cataclysm of total war and total destruction awaits us just around the corner. Whether that destruction comes from the use of weapons of mass destruction or from climatic catastrophe or some other, perhaps unanticipated, consequence of war, is a minor consideration. Herb Ruhs, MD Twofer of travails by Hazel Burke Monday, August 18, 2008 PERMANENT LINK After seeing the candidates' joint appearance at Saddleback Church, I came away believing that Obama actually has a very good chance of losing the election unless he gets his shit together. McCain "won" the contest by far, in my opinion -- there was really nothing about Obama's performance that seemed presidential; it was as if he were a young man speaking to a wise elder, with timidity and trepidation. Oy. Hazel Burke Clean sweep by Angry Annie Monday, August 18, 2008 PERMANENT LINK Bush protector Conyers (D-Michigan) says he'll "conduct a careful review" of charges that Bush White House ordered CIA to prepare forged letter linking Iraq to 9/11 That's the broom sweeping the matter under the table. Angry Annie Dental coverage by Bill the Professor Monday, August 18, 2008 PERMANENT LINK Over 100 million Americans do not have dental health insurance Do the toothless vote Republican?
