But now there is no hope by Mr Chuckles Sunday, August 24, 2008 PERMANENT LINK Interview With Jim Rogers and part 2 This is good stuff. Rogers is the ex-partner of George Soros. He moved his entire family from the US to Singapore because he believes that Asia will dominate in the future, so he isn't just a blow-hard, he is a man of action. According to Rogers, most Americans don't know how bad things are really. Not a clue. Last week the markets began to believe in all-but-certain Fed bail-out of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac. That's another few trillion right there -- while Freddie and Fannie continue merrily in business digging the holes deeper. Soon the GM/Ford bail-out and when do people come to the realization that they, the American citizens, are being ripped off? How many understand that Social Security and Medicare have problems which could have been fixed, but now there is no hope because all of the future was obliterated during the Bush years? Another point he makes is that only a crisis (which forces change) or a miracle of good fortune could turn things around. And I think the US is too big for a miraculous event of the necessary size -- it would have to be a $10 trillion jackpot (and would probably be looted by D.C. anyway...) Mr Chuckles Philly Phil by SirJ Sunday, August 24, 2008 PERMANENT LINK Re Too many mansions to count by SirJ Dick Cheney was and is the unitary resident of the D. of C., i.e. the District of Cheney. Thus, there is no conflict of residency status between himself and George. I'm from the Philly area and I recognize the name "Philip J. Berg" as a lawyer/politician in the area. His name pops up from time to time in the news. Whether he did file suit as has been claimed, we'll have to wait and see. He has made the local news in a very minor confirmatory way... Raining on Barack's parade
SirJ Appreciated, SirJ. Helen & Harry
Obama's awfully naïve by JR Mooneyham Sunday, August 24, 2008 PERMANENT LINK I know you think Obama knows what he's doing. But I disagree. He seems awfully naive about some very important issues, as well as over-confident to the point of arrogance. Both usually signs of an immature and/or inexperienced person. Yeah, that's better than a truly demented and perhaps evil man like McCain. JR Mooneyham (www.jrmooneyham.com/) Dinosaurs by Leehar24 Sunday, August 24, 2008 PERMANENT LINK Re GM and Ford put out the begging bowls by Siegfried Lemelson Fuck them both. They both brought this bankruptcy upon themselves by ignoring the looming threat in favor of short term profit for the execs and boards. They have lost the will to innovate. They remain steadfastly mired in the fifties. Let the dinosaurs die. Leehar24 The everlasting if by Mike D. Sunday, August 24, 2008 PERMANENT LINK Re GM and Ford put out the begging bowls by Siegfried Lemelson If they would stop building such crappy cars... Mike D. Perhaps by Blue Bunting Sunday, August 24, 2008 PERMANENT LINK Re Petraeus retreats under fire by SirJ Perhaps Petraeus can tell us what the Pentagon did with another missing $2.3 TRILLION ... Blue Bunting Deserted by the Democrats by Wig Sunday, August 24, 2008 PERMANENT LINK Re Obama's health program by Wig after almost three decades of Republican leadershipPrecisely why I'm so turned off with the choices today. I don't see any "change" with either presidential nominee. Obama's "change" is superficial façade and McCain's is superficial bluster. Wig I want to disagree, but it's difficult. Obama, I think, at worst represents a rollback to Clinton-era scumbaggery, and I think that's worth my vote. Sigh. Helen & Harry Severely disappointed with Obama-Biden ticket
Perhaps you don't care to read this Post and the comments for lack of time. However, the comments so impressed upon me the fact that I'm not alone in my feeling that the Democratic Party has deserted ME. Wig Actually, I was looking for someone to articulately share my disappointment, and again, I want to disagree but really I can't. I'm not sure the Democratic Party has ever been progressive in my lifetime, but they've sure tried not to be progressive in recent elections, and it's just a perpetual splash of cold water in the face, ain't it? The Democrats haven't given me a Presidential candidate I could support with anything approaching enthusiasm since ... well, jeez, I'm flipping back in my mind through every four years to before I was old enough to vote, and I'm still not coming up with a name. Obama, sigh, was my third choice this time around has a certain charm that's undeniable, but the charm has worn off for me, and it's going to be an unpleasant challenge to vote for him. Helen & Harry
Bait and switch by Siskiyousis Sunday, August 24, 2008 PERMANENT LINK Re GM and Ford put out the begging bowls by Siegfried Lemelson ...the loans requested by the auto makers sound like a bait-and-switch scheme to me, but then I don't trust them any more than I trust McCain. Isn't it obvious that they do not have the gold to cover the manufacture of coins, much less back up the paper currency? Siskiyousis Just obey by Obbop Sunday, August 24, 2008 PERMANENT LINK Re GM and Ford put out the begging bowls by Siegfried Lemelson Why would upper-management care about long-term corporate existence when those folks earn more in a few months than the vast majority of Americans earn from a life-time of labor? Add in life-long health insurance, free, of the best type and their golden parachutes and all the perks there is no real incentive to do what needs done at any stage of a corporation's life. Of course, the supporters of the current status quo will spew that is was/is the "free market" that set those wages and benefits. Uh huh. Yeah. Just as departing federal level politicos earn mega-millions of dollars from speaking fees and sitting on corporate boards (perhaps meeting once a day yearly) and receiving wondrous benefits... all for not defying the will of the elite class and corporate America. It's the "free market"!!!!!! Accept it ye mere commoners. Just obey. The elite's jack-booted thugs are ready to ensure you do obey. Now, back to the thrills and chills of the current presidential election farce that diverts your minimal attention from reality. It is so easy to lead a nation of sheep. Non-rational unthinking sheep. Obey. Obbop |
