Dr. Nouriel Roubini (a.k.a. Dr Doom) harshes the US government for a) massively subsidizing the wealthy with the on-going bail-outs, and b) allowing massive accounting fraud to continue even now because they are terrified of triggering an economic collapse. All in all, this is the most bearish article I've read in some time! For example, he is predicting that the S&P 500 has only fallen half way from its highs, and that the recession will last 18 months or more... etc. etc.
One of his main predictions, towards the end of
the article, is that currency "pegs" -- which
keep foreign currencies at a fixed exchange
rate -- with the dollar will be broken by the
time this is all over. And so the dollar's reign
as king will be ended -- along with the American
Empire. (And there is yet another chance to
sell dollars while everyone is looking the other
way believing the official propaganda.)
I am amazed at how thoroughly Bush destroyed
not just 50 years of diplomacy and foreign
policy work, but
Excerpt: Regular readers of this blog are familiar with my views. But here below is a detailed summary of the reasons for my views -- as presented in this blog in the last few months -- that this will turn out to be the worst financial crisis since the Great Depression and the worst US recession in decades (hyperlinks to my relevant recent writings are provided for each argument) ...

America's financial future, through his apathetic, ignorant
pudding-headed efforts.
Wanda Sykes, the comedienne, sez, "Men, you
gotta stick to your lie!" That is the GOP
mode 100%. No matter what happens they keep
telling the same lies. Even when all evidence
proves the exact opposite, they stick to their
lies. At most, they invent a new word or phrase.
So, they "believe in a strong dollar" 100% but
have done nothing but destroy value. They don't
want a withdrawal "timeline", but a "time
horizon" is great. They don't "torture", they
"harshly interrogate". They don't "arrest", they
"detain". Yada yada.
This time though they've
gone too far because it is affecting every man
woman and child in America and I think people
actually will be mighty pissed if this turns
out the way Dr. Roubini is predicting. It won't just
be the end of the "empire", but the end of
a generation of politicians and bureaucrats --
they're fucked if Roubini is right!
The dialogue page is our "letters to the editor" section. To participate, email your comments to unknownnews at inbox.com.
Drum roll, please: Beginning tomorrow, the Unknown News website will start looking a little different. The gigantic once-weekly news round-ups on our home page will end, and instead we'll have smaller but more frequent updates, with the newest material at the top of the page and older news and comments sliding downward. Of course, that's the format used by most other amateur weblogs, including probably all your favorites and virtually all my favorites. Most weblogs use that format because (duh) it's much easier for readers to navigate, and less time-intensive to create. Picture me slapping my forehead.
Our goal is a site that makes more sense for visitors, and not coincidentally requires less webwork for your humble editors. And we're also going to give the joint a fresh coat of paint, so say goodbye to the rather garish mustard color scheme.
Give us a few days to shake out the bugs, and we're hoping you'll agree that these changes are for the better. Please let us know what you think, and holler if you find any glitches or can't find what you're looking for.
Our front page is free from nudity and profanity, but interior pages and external links may not be safe for work, and you may be shocked, offended, or in trouble with your boss. A link doesn't imply that we agree with every sentence and every sentiment on every site we link to. We use our noggins, and suggest you use yours.
Anything sent to Unknown News may be published. If you don't want
it published, say so plainly. Of course, we publish all incoming hate mail.
Because we respect peoples' privacy, we do not keep records of friends' and contributors' contact information. This means we can't forward private communications between readers and writers, but we always welcome dialogue for publication.
We're especially interested in hearing and considering different perspectives. All we ask is that you conduct yourself sanely and civilly. For the most productive dialogue, it helps if you'll cite a specific article or concept we've gotten wrong.
But please, don't email us unless you're really and truly, honestly, actually trying to send a communication you're not sending to anyone or everyone else.
When we publish incoming emails, we usually edit out the sender's last name, email address, or anything else that would tend to uniquely identify the author (if we slip up, please let us know). But if your email is unambiguously intended only to annoy, insult, or threaten us, we'll publish all the details, and leave it on-line forever.
If you're trying to reach us but getting no reply, it's probably because you've sent us cr*p we don't want, so we're filtering your emails into the trash, unopened and unread.
If you'd like to have your email address unblocked, simply send a sincere apology (from an un-blocked email address).
YOU CAN HELP
We try not to whine too much or too loudly, but we are poor and this site eats a lot of time
